ON THE LEADERBOARD: Santana currently ranks first in all of baseball in opponents average (.140), WHIP (0.84), hits per nine innings (4.21) and shutouts (2) and second in ERA (1.75) and tied for second in wins (7).

FINISHING WHAT HE STARTED: Santana leads the major leagues with two complete game shutouts this season...shutout Baltimore on May 23 at Camden Yards, scattering two hits, and Chicago-AL on April 15, allowing just one hit...Santana's three shutouts since the beginning of the 2016 season are tied with Clayton Kershaw and Corey Kluber for the most in baseball...is the first pitcher to throw multiple shutouts with two-or-fewer hits allowed in each since Max Scherzer (3x) and Carlos Carrasco in 2015...is the first Twin to do so since Scott Erickson in 1991 (2x)...has thrown 18 complete games in his career (4 with Minnesota)...his one-hitter vs. the White Sox was the 17th team one-hitter in Twins history, the last coming on May 28, 2011 vs. Los Angeles-AL (Anthony Swarzak/Matt Capps/Alex Burnett)...the last one-hitter by a single Twins pitcher was on August 31, 2007 vs. Kansas City by Scott Baker.

HE'S BEEN A HIT: Santana has allowed just 36 hits this season, the lowest mark in baseball among pitchers to make at least 10 starts...has thrown 6.0-plus innings and allowed four-or-fewer hits in a major-league-leading eight games this season...had just seven such starts last season and is a game shy of matching his career-high for such games in a season (9 in 2012)... Santana pitched 6.0-plus innings and allowed four or fewer hits in each of his first six starts this season, matching Nolan Ryan (1971) for the longest streak to begin a season in history...was the second-longest overall streak in Twins history (10 straight by Johan Santana in 2004).

MODEL OF CONSISTENCY: Santana has pitched 6.0-plus innings and allowed one or fewer runs in eight of his 11 starts this season, tied with Dallas Keuchel for the most such starts in baseball...Santana had five such starts all of last season...hasn't had eight-plus such starts in a season since doing so nine times in 2014.

WINNING WAYS: His seven wins this season already match his respective season totals from the 2016 and 2015 seasons...began the season 5-0 (in decisions) for the second time in his career (started 6-0 with Los Angeles-AL in 2008)...is the first Twin to start a season 5-0 since Carlos Silva started 5-0 in 2004 (Brian Duensing started 5-0 in 2009 after joining the rotation in August)...according to Elias, Santana was the first starter in Twins history to post a sub-1.00 ERA through his first six starts (0.66).

KEEPING THE DEFENSE BUSY: Santana is averaging just 6.55 strikeouts per nine innings so far this season, the lowest mark of his career since 2006 (6.22)...opponents are hitting just .145 on batted balls in play so far this season vs. Santana, the lowest figure in baseball by 71 points.
