CAREER NOTES

LAST TIME OUT: Gibson took a no-decision after going 7.0 innings and allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and strikeouts in the Twins 4-2, 11-inning win, opposite Roenis Elias...he retired nine of the first 10 hitters, but allowed a leadoff home run to Seth Smith in the fourth inning, and a Logan Morrison groundout later in the frame plated the other M’s run...here a few more notes from his start:• Gibson faced one batter in the eighth inning before departing...it was his longest

outing of the season, and it marked the first time he had pitched into the eighth since September 28, 2014 at Detroit (7.1-4-3-3-3-6)...the outing was Gibson’s second quality start this season, the fourth in his last six starts and the 19th of his career.

• Gibson struck out Nelson Cruz leading off the sixth inning for his first strike out in 51 batters...he struck out Mike Moustakas to end the fifth inning of an April 15 start, didn’t strike out any of the 22 Royals he faced in his next outing, and failed to strike out any of the first 21 Mariners he faced in his last start before fanning three of the final eight batters.

TOO EARLY FOR A HOMER: Gibson allowed a home run to Seth Smith leading off the fourth inning in his last start, just the second he has given up this season...in 2014, he did not allow a home run until his seventh start of the season May 10 at Detroit (Cabrera)...he allowed just 12 all of 2014, tied for the third fewest in the AL (minimum 170.0 IP) and tied for sixth fewest in baseball.

NO IN BETWEEN: The Twins have won 21 of Gibson’s 45 career starts...in those 21 games, Gibson has 16 wins, a 2.00 ERA (135.1 IP, 30 ER), 40 walks and 79 strikeouts...he has given up just three home runs in the Twins last 16 wins when he been on the hill, a span covering 109.2 innings...in the 24 losses the Twins have in his career outings, Gibson has an 8.28 ERA (117.1 IP, 108 ER), 49 walks, 63 strikeouts, and has taken the individual loss in 18 of those outings.

WALK THIS WAY: Gibson has walked 12 batters in 22.1 innings this season...he has three walks-or-more in three of his four starts this year, and 16 of his 45 career outings...the Twins have lost six of the last eight games in which Gibson surrenders at least three walks...the 12 walks on the season are tied for sixth most in the AL, and his 0.50 strikeout/walk ratio is the lowest in all of baseball.

AGAINST THE WHITE SOX: Gibson will be making his third career start against the White Sox, and his first at Target Field...he is 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA (12.2 IP, 6 ER), four walks and 10 strikeouts...he was the winner in his last start against Chicago-AL August 3, 2014, going 7.0 innings and allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts in the Twins 16-3 victory...all three runs allowed were in the fourth inning, and two came on a Dayan Viciedo home run...16 of Gibson’s previous 18 career outings against the AL Central have come against the Detroit (6), Cleveland (5) and Kansas City (5).

2014 RECAP: Gibson finished his first full major league season with a record of 13-12, the second most wins on the staff (Hughes - 16)..finished second in starts (31), innings pitched (179.9) and quality starts (15) and third in strikeouts (107).• Won each of his first three starts to become the first Twin since Livan Hernandez (2008)

to make the Twins starting rotation and begin the season with three consecutive victories...he became one of just three pitchers in Twins history to start the season with a record of 3-0 while posting a sub-1.00 ERA, joining Bill Krueger (1992) and Fransisco Liriano (2006).

• Recorded a career-high eight strikeouts twice: June 18 vs. Boston and September 23 vs. Arizona.

• Allowed just 12 home runs, tied for third fewest in the American League (minimum 170.0 innings pitched) and tied for sixth fewest in baseball...posted a 0.60 home run-per 9.0 innings pitched ratio, the seventh lowest in the AL.

• Posted a ground ball percentage of 55.8, the fifth highest in the AL.• His 2.32 groundball-to-flyball ratio was the fourth highest in the AL.

SPRING RECAP: Gibson made a career-high and tied for the team-high with six Grapefruit League starts...he went 0-2, 3.51 ERA (25.2 IP, 10 ER) with seven walks and 18 strike-outs...his 25.2 innings led the club...his best outing came on March 25 vs. Tampa Bay when he went 6.0 innings and allowed only one run on two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts...he also worked 6.0 innings in his final start April 9 vs. Boston, the longest two outings of Spring Training career.
