Minneapolis–St. Paul
Twin Cities residents plan to spend an average of $850 per household this holiday season
Chart of the week: December 14, 2015
• Since St. Thomas began its holiday spending survey in 2002, this is the first year that respondents are just as likely to shop online as they are to purchase gifts at shopping malls or in the Minneapolis and St. Paul CBDs.
• Locally-headquartered retailers Target and Best Buy are among the top four most popular stores for Twin Cities residents to purchase gifts this time of year.
• Target just unveiled a 16,000-square-foot holiday “retail spectacle” in NYC to generate buzz and test new marketing tactics. On Black Friday, Best Buy enjoyed traffic that was 4.2 times what its stores normally see on a typical Friday, and the company extended its Cyber Monday promotion for the entire week.
