Alex & Megan Mercado Special financial assistance

Bethany’s very own Megan (Sutton) and Alex Mercado have reached 100% in their

support needed to begin ministering in Nairobi, Kenya through Wycliffe. They leave

for Nairobi January 12th and have already purchased their plane tickets. However,

they also need assistance to raise enough one-time support to cover all of their

outgoing expenses; such as airfare, car, etc. If you feel led and are able to help Alex

and Megan with a one-time gift, there are three easy options:

    1. Give by check: Make checks out to “Wycliffe

    Bible Translators” and enclose a

    separate note stating,

    “Preference for the Wycliffe

    ministry of Alex and Megan

    Mercado, ID # 71-270043.”

    Mail checks and note to:

    Wycliffe Bible Translators

    PO Box 628200

    Orlando, FL 32862-8200

    2. Give online: Visit wycliffe.org/partner/

mercado. In the box that says

    “Wycliffe Ministry Budget” use the

pull down arrow to reveal “Launch

    Expense Account.” Once that is

    established enter a dollar amount

in the give box and click

    Give. Under Anonymous? click on

the + sign (Add instructions) and type in the box ID # 71-270043.

    3. Give by Phone: Call 1-800-WYCLIFFE. You can

set up a recurring or one-time

    electronic funds transfer (EFT) by

    talking to a Wycliffe

    representative.

    YOUTH NEWS

Souled Out On Wednesday Nights Wednesdays @ 7pm

There is no other place that JR HI and SR HI students should be every

Wednesday night because that’s when Souled Out is happening! JR HI meets in

the teen room while the SR HI gather up in the Fireside

Room. Each week is another opportunity to build

relationships with each other and with the God who not

only made us, but loves us so much! It is a place for

friends to come and explore what life can be like when

we live it Jesus’ way. Each night can have some crazy

fun games, perhaps some food, a time where we try to

put together real pieces of our lives (the things we

wonder about, struggle with, and need to learn more

about) and bring them to the God who is writing our

story each and every day. Don’t miss a single week!

SR HI New Year’s Eve All DAYER December 31st @ 2pm-12:30am

That’s right … the SR HI will not be staying up all night this year because New Year’s Eve is on a

Saturday. Since church is the next day, we will be starting our celebration at 2pm on Saturday, December

31st, and ending at 12:30am after the ball drops. It’s going to be a great time! All you can eat pizza, pop,

snacks, Mike’s messy games (think old school Nickelodeon but without the big budget), Capture the Flag,

an offsite activity, a big screen movie, and much more--all to bring the New Year in with style. You don’t

want to miss this! Cost is just $12. Turn money in to Robyn Miller to get on the list. Deadline is

    Wednesday, December 28th.

Camp Barakel Winter Retreat February 3-5, 2017

Our JR & SR HI students are headed back to Camp Barakel on February 3-5 for our annual winter

retreat. Think broom hockey, tubing (with a tow rope!), great food, ice skating, cross country skiing, all you

can drink hot chocolate, and so much more! Get your $40 non-refundable deposit to Robyn Miller no later

than Jan. 29th with the remaining money due by Feb. 1st. Flyers are available at the Information counter

or online (check the church webpage or on the Souled Out Facebook page ... see below). See Pastor Mike

if you have any questions as well.

    Winter Jam 2017 February 11, 2017 @ 2pm-11pm

It’s like an entire Christian music festival packed into one evening and all for $10! This year’s tour

features a great lineup of Christian artists like David Crowder, Britt Nicole, Tenth Avenue North, Thousand

Foot Krutch, Colton Dixon, and several others. This event is for all JR & SR HI students. All you have to do

is sign up with Robyn Miller no later than Feb. 8th, bring $10 the day of the event, along with a signed

permission slip. Show up at church at 2pm then have your parents pick you up at 11pm back at church.

    It’s just that easy!

Souled Out Online If you are looking for information about Souled Out and the events that we are doing, you’ve got two

great sources: Facebook and the church’s website. While there may be several down sides to Facebook,

one of the good things about it is that it allows us to quickly get detailed information out to everyone

about upcoming events. That same information will always be placed on our church website as well for

those of you who do not have Facebook accounts. The Facebook address is www.facebook.com/

SouledOutBBC and the website address is connect2bethany.org/#/connectbethany/teens. We also have

an Instagram page. Just search for “souledout4.6” to find it.

    3 Bethany Newsletter JANUARY 2017

Missionary of the week, January 2017

Jan 1 – Sandra Neahusan – is retired from Word of Life and living in Clio, Michigan. She still represents Word of Life ministries at mission conferences. Sandy is very active in her church, which includes VBS and puppet ministries. Every year she plants a vegetable garden, and she shares the produce. She asks prayer for her grandchildren in college, the military, and police work. Also her daughter-in-law Rhonda is still battling pancreatic cancer.

Jan 8 – Mark & Susan – Mark continues to teach and preach in different countries – working to help national partners start churches and reach the unreached. Pray for God to give wisdom, workers, and resources, to help these partners reach their nation with the gospel. Susan ministers to wives of international partners, works with a quilting outreach in their church, and builds friendships with ladies in her neighborhood.

Jan 15 – Phil & Julie Parshall – are assisting with the medical needs of the residents in the SIM Retirement Village in Sebring, FL. They are also involved with missions in their church. Please pray for their health, their granddaughter, Jacqueline’s health issues as she begins college at Azusa Pacific, and for their ministry with local Bangladeshis.

Jan 22 – Tim & Katie Cole – Tim has ongoing back issues which often limit his ability to minister, please pray for his healing. He continues, however to be involved in the ministry of Family Forum Japan through writing, social media, counseling and consulting over the phone, and occasionally speaking locally. Katie keeps busy with TEAM’s (The Evangelical Alliance Mission) language program for new missionaries, women’s ministries in their town and in Tokyo and Nakano. She is also Tim’s caregiver.

Jan 29 – Bob & Carol Givens – though retired, they continue being invited by SIM to help in the training of new workers at SIM Charlotte. Currently they have around 80 missionaries in the process of raising up their support teams. They continue to encourage them via the internet and phone calls. Bob & Carol also are involved in discipleship ministries related to their local church. Recently they have been invited to run the mission guesthouse in Bolivia for a short time. They are praying about this opportunity. They also request prayer for Carol’s long-term healthcare for her diabetes.

    SPOTLIGHT ON MISSIONS

Don & Pat Block Honored Missionaries, Don and Pat Block, have been invited to attend the 20th anniversary celebration of a

hospital built deep in the country of Northeast India on February 4, 2017.

When they returned to the states to continue Bible translations over 20 years ago, Pat was asked to

help at a Grand Rapids hospital where refugees and immigrants needed assistance with translating their

needs in order to receive medical care. The hospital was so appreciative of her efforts that they offered

200 patient gowns, surgical equipment, etc. for them to send or take to India.

Sana and Nancy Singh, missionaries from Baptist Mid-Missions, built the hospital in India and the

Blocks visited them with these gifts several times during deliveries of the Bible translations they had

completed. The Singhs now wish to honor the Blocks by inviting them to the celebration even to the point

of sacrificing some of their funds to cover partial traveling costs. In addition to traveling costs the Blocks

have found that they need to renew their visas at a cost of $500 each.

The Missions Team at Bethany voted to send them $500 towards the cost of this trip. Along with a few

other churches/supporters, nearly all of the funds needed for this trip have been provided and Don & Pat

look at this as affirmation that God would have them go.

Additional Missionary Needs Met The Missions team voted to give $500 to assist Phil and Julie Parshall in covering medical costs

incurred during the treatment of Julie’s cancer.

$1000 was given to Adam and Bethel Gascho to help meet some major end of year costs not being met

    by their current support.

Resolution for the new year: Pray for at least one missionary, by name, each day.

    HAPPENINGS

PrimeTimers (ages 50+) The PrimeTimers had their Christmas Luncheon at

Next Event Make sure you save the date January

18 @ noon. The Prime Timers will be

    celebrating the Chinese New Year

with lunch & fun activities at Bethany.

Youth Programs Outreach This Christmas season some of Bethany’s young people

visited or sang as an outreach project. On December 1st

several kids in 3-7th grade from Bethany went to play bells

at the MOPS Christmas party for the Compassion Pregnancy

Center Moms. The kids did an excellent job!

Then on December 10th, 23 GEMS and Trail Life kids from

K-6th grade spent their afternoon practicing, singing and

playing bells at PineRidge Assisted Living on Garfield and

nearby at Clinton Aire Nursing Home. The kids also handed

out homemade beaded candy canes to all the seniors. It

was awesome seeing the kids help transporting the residents to the program

    and

    spending

    time

    ministering

    to them. We

    are so

    proud of

Savannah Harris vowed to leave her old life behind

As more eerie incidents begin to afflict the area,

Even as Savannah’s new boarder, Clive Miller, makes
