The launch was attended by His Excellency the Honourable Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed. The CEO of SMMG, Mr. Mike Douglas said: “"The purpose of this event is to launch our new mining company here in Somalia, Som Minerals & Mining Group Limited. This is a new venture because we saw a big opportunity here in Somalia to develop the mining sector and hopefully bring some much needed investment and create jobs and prosperity in the community throughout Somalia.” SMMG hands historic survey files to Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources SMMG obtained a complete set of British Geological Survey (BGS) archive reports for Somalia, some dating as far back as 1920, so that they could be presented to the Somali Ministry of Petroleum & Minerals. Mr. Douglas commented: “To launch our relationship with the Ministry of Petroleum & Minerals we researched previous studies and discovered SMMG CEO, Mr. Mike Douglas presents historic mining survey records to His Excellency the Honourable Minister for Petroleum & Mineral Resources Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed that the British Geographical Survey had a lot of historic surveys. After considerable work from our Senior Geologist, Mr. Simon O’Toole, we were able make copies and would like to present them to the Somali Ministry” His Excellency the Honourable Minister for Petroleum & Mineral Resources, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed said: "We are proud of SMMG's efforts to deliver this valuable information to our country, and we welcome anyone investing in Somalia for its resources" Som Mineral Mining Group Company Launch

On 24 March 2019 Som Minerals & Mining Group Limited (SMMG) was launched in Somalia as an exploration and mining company licensed by the Federal Government. The launch was attended by His Excellency the Honourable Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed. The CEO of SMMG, Mr. Mike Douglas said:
