The Little Free Library team is looking for a few people to help monitor the libraries and restock them. This would take no more than 1 hour twice a month. This can be done during the day or in the evening. If you are interested, talk to Marg Goodlin, Marla Stahl or Kathy Piet.

Next Week’s Ministry Connection will be printed on Friday. Submit your announcements by Thursday.

Great Expectations (Monthly Newsletter) Articles are due this Wednesday, 7/12. Please send articles, pictures and ads to Carol Henderson, Editor ([email protected]). For those without internet access, please drop off your article in Sharon Punte’s Parish Admin mailbox in the Volunteer Room.

Council Meeting: This Tuesday, July 12 @ 7pm in the Conference Room.

Ministry Budget Information is due at the end of July. Please refer to email from the Finance Team for instructions.

Adult Sunday School (Sun. 10a, Conference Room): Come and join us as we continue to look at the Bible's Book of James, the brother of Jesus and head of the early church in Jerusalem. We are focusing now on Chapter 2, the part that is most controversial for Lutherans. Are we saved through grace or because of our good works? If by grace alone, does God still expect us to love our neighbors through good deeds and treat everyone equally? Will we one day face a judgment? Everyone is welcome for study and sharing and debate.

Wed. Morning Bible Study (Weds, 10a, Conference Room): We’re reading and discussing selections from contemporary literature from the collection Listening for God, vol. 1 edited by Paula J. Carlson. Everyone is invited to attend, even if you can’t be there regularly. This week we’re reading and discussing Chapter 2: “The Dwarves in the Stable” by Frederick Buechner. All are welcome.

Thanks for the Hymnals from St Dysmus: Dear members of New Hope, On behalf of all the members of the Community of St. Dysmas I would like to thank you for the 20 new hymnals I received last week. Now all our members are using the same hymnal. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Through your generous donation, your ongoing prayers and financial support you are doing a beautiful thing. You are allowing men and women to find new life in Christ by connecting them to worship both inside and outside of prison. For this I thank you! Peace, Reverend Gerry Rickel, Pastor of the Community of St. Dysmas

West Virginia Flood Response -Last week, West Virginia suffered historic and devastating floods that have caused at least 23 deaths and significant damage throughout the state. Our neighbors to the west, the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod (www.wv-wmd.org) have been working with local relief agencies regarding disaster response, and you can follow them on Facebook “WV-WMD Synod, ELCA” for the latest updates. For those who are seeking ways to help, the following options have been recommended by leaders in the synod: West Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in

Disaster (wvvoad.communityos.org): The WV VOAD has links for donating money and goods, as well as volunteer registration.

Community Lutheran Partners (www.clp-online.org): CLP is the synodical organization that works with VOAD. They have a PayPal link for donating money, and their Facebook page “Community Lutheran Partners, Inc.” is regularly updated with needs and opportunities for service. If you would like to donate or volunteer through the synod and CLP, please contact Sherri Schafer.

Camp Luther (camplutherwv.com): The WV-WMD Synod operates a one-week summer camp for young people in grades 3-12; camp was in session last week when the worst of the flooding occurred, and the camp was evacuated to a local congregation during the storm. There was damage to Camp Ceasar (www.campcaesar.info), where Camp Luther is housed. Camp Luther will be posting updates to their Facebook page regarding needs and opportunities for helping address the damage at Camp Caesar.

If you would prefer to donate through New Hope, make check payable to New Hope and write WV flood in the memo line and place it in the offering plate or give it to Kathy Piet.

Care Bags for the Homeless: We are currently in need supplies for the bags: men’s white calf socks, 20 oz bottles of water or Gatorade type drinks, individual snacks like fruit snacks, cracker sandwiches, power bars, granola bars, protein bars, bags of nuts, jiff to go cups, chapstick, travel

sunscreen, inexpensive rain ponchos. Place supplies in the bin in the coat closet marked Bags for Homeless. Place monetary donations the offering plate marked “Bags for Homeless”.
