centurypapersfromthroughouttheOtagoregion.Mostcontainextensivenewsrelatingto
mining,and theOtagoWitnesshad regular columnsofminingnews from throughout the

Music Charles Thatcher, goldfields balladeer, touredNew Zealand during the 1860s.We have
some ofhis songsters,with lyricshewrote tobeperformed topopular tunes.Wehave
sound recordingsofmodern folk singers, includingMartinCurtisandPhilGarland,who
haverecordedsomeoldersongs,alongwiththeirowncompositionsabouttheminers.Our

Brownfamilypapers:BrothersMosesandJohnBrownbegangoldminingatKyeburninthe1880sandtheclaimwasworkedbythemandtheirdescendantsuntilthe1950s.Thesepapersincludereceiptsandaccountbooksfortheirminingbusinessandasequenceofdiaries,commencingin1936,whichrecordworkactivitiesontheclaim.[ARC0571]
