Carmudi PH says auto sales poised tohit 'monumental' annual growth anewMANILA - CarmudiPhilippines—the local armfor the leading online ve-hicle platform around theworld—has expressed itsutmost confidence that theautomotive industry is setto hit a ‘monumental salesfeat for 2016.

Abhishek Mohan,Carmudi Philippines Man-aging Director, said thatthe industry would easilyreach the vehicle sales tar-get following the trendseen since 2010. “I believethis year would be no dif-ferent from the last halfdecade and a monumentalvehicle sales feat is likely tooccur as the industry ap-proaches the year 2020,” hesaid.

“Sales for the whole of2010 was 168,000 units butalmost doubled to reachover 300,000 by end 2015,”he said, adding that latesttrend on vehicle sales is45,000-unit increase peryear.

Mohan also cited newsreports quoting Chamberof Automotive Manufactur-ers of the Philippines Inc.(CAMPI) presidentRommel Gutierrez, expect-ing that sales could reach500,000 units well before2020. “Vehicle ownershiphas always been an aspira-tion for Filipinos. Risingincomes, coupled with at-tractive terms that are beingput up by distributors anddealers, are fueling this ex-plosive growth in car sales,”he said. “Apart from that, Ibelieve car makers wouldcontinue to provide moreappealing payment optionsto try and take advantage ofthe Comprehensive Auto-motive Resurgence Strategy(CARS) program.”

Moreover, Mohanmentioned that last year,Philippines placed third onthe fastest growing vehiclesales in Southeast Asia nextto Singapore and Vietnam. With that, he urged allcarmakers to further utilizethe power of the internet, like tapping trusted onlineplatforms to boost vehiclessales. According to him, the

internet is now a dominantsource of information foryoung Filipinos while re-searching their impendingvehicle purchase and howcarmakers engage theinternet savvy populationwill be a strong determi-nant of their position in themarket.

Two months ago, salesfor the car manufacturersshowed resilience aftermembers of the jointCAMPI-Truck Manufactur-ers Association, reachedoverall sales for 2015 of288,609 units versus234,747 units sold in 2014,reflecting a 22.9 percentrise.

The top five perform-ers for CAMPI were ToyotaMotors Philippines Corpo-ration, taking the lion’sshare with 39.2 percentmarket share; followed byMitsubishi Motors Philip-pines Corporation with20.4-percent. Ford MotorCompany Philippines, Inc.placed third with a 10.3percent share. Not far be-hind were Japanese brandsIsuzu Philippines Corpora-tion with an 8.3-percentmarket share; and Honda

Cars Philippines, Inc. with7.4-percent, baggingfourth and fifth spots, re-spectively.

Gutierrez was alsoquoted as saying: “We esti-mated a lower to stablesales performance forJanuary since Decemberhas just ended. We willcontinue to offer productsto meet the increasing cus-tomer demand.”

Teleperformance offers tips onhow to be successful in your first job

LEAVING the comforts ofcollege campus life couldbe one of the unsettling ex-periences for newgraduates. Couple thatwith the fact that there areover 650,000 college gradu-ates who are expected tojoin the labor force thisyear, which means a freshgraduate looking for workwill have to toughly com-pete for that “first job.”

Getting a call from anemployer informing you ofyour successful applicationis one of the most memo-rable messages you willever receive. But what doeshaving a first job feel like? How does one cope withthe new corporate environ-ment? As an organizationthat cultivates a culture ofexcellence around its corevalues, Teleperformance, the world’s leading pro-vider of outsourcedcustomer experience man-agement services, offerssome tips on how to be suc-cessful in your first job:

1. Learn to respect oth-ers. Treat others withkindness and empathy. Asa new employee, you willbe exposed to an environ-ment where everyindividual has a unique setof values, characteristics, beliefs and ideas. It is there-fore important to considerthis aspect when dealingwith your peers to ensurethat you have a healthy at-mosphere within theorganization. Learn to putyourself in another person’sshoes. Take time to culti-vate what each employeehas to offer because respectbegets respect.

2. Maintain a high levelof professionalism. Dothings right the very firsttime. Make it a point to cre-ate an atmosphere thatfosters better relationshipwithin your workplace ratherthan ignite conflicts. Addresswork-related issues head oninstead of ranting about it onsocial media or making gos-sips within the office. Asalways, the best way to moveforward is to fix the problemrather than blame people.Take note that through ourtalents and skills, we trans-form interactions intogolden experiences.

3. Show your commit-ment. Be passionate andengaged. Embrace and un-derstand your contributionto an organization and learnto love what you are doing.Keep in mind that the lack ofpassion in what you do cancause you to be uninterested

in your work, which canslowly lead you to abandon-ing your job. Remember, commitment ignites our ac-tions and drives ourperformance. It fuels ourpassion to do our job well.

4. Demonstrate integrityevery day. Say what you doand do what you say. One’sintegrity plays a crucial rolefor a career to flourish and fora business to succeed.Hence, learn to build a per-sona of unquestionableintegrity by displaying hon-esty and moral uprightnessand by religiously upholdingthe mission and vision ofyour organization.

5. Continue to innovate.Create and improve. Con-tinuously learn to thinkout of the box for the good ofthe organization instead ofbeing tied up to your job de-scription. Leave behind your“what ifs” as this can hamper

your growth and the ad-vancement of the business. It’s always best to go be-yond the extra mile inperforming your tasks.

“These characteristicsare vital to one’s survivaland growth in the corpo-rate world,” said RachelCacabelos, Vice Presidentfor Human Resources ofTeleperformance Philip-pines. “These form part ofthe basic skills set that maybe expected of new em-ployees. AtTeleperformance, wewarmly welcome new em-ployees and help thembuild a progressive careerin an organization that val-ues respect, professionalism, commit-ment, integrity andinnovation. Our corporatevalues guide us in our dailytasks to transform our pas-sion into excellence."

“With only a few weeksremaining before the May 9polls, we reiterate our call forthem to say their piece andsatisfy our eagerness to hearthem speak and be heard forthe sake of our murderedbrothers and sisters in theprofession and others like uswho continue to dwell infear in the face of these un-abated killings,” Egcostressed.

NPC Dares Bets: Reveal StandOn Media Killings, Impunity

The NPC president atthe same time scored the ad-ministration of PresidentBenigno Aquino 3rd for notpaying serious attention tothe problem, the solution ofwhich he only entrusted tounderlings who utterly lackdedication.

“It is in the interest ofjustice that we vet whoamong our future leadersvalue press freedom equallyas human rights, both ofwhich are vital componentsof a truly free and demo-cratic nation. We shouldknow who among themhave journalist blood ontheir hands and those whohave not. Most importantly,we must know how theywould be able to avoid com-mitting the same mistakesas the present and previous

administrations did in rela-tion to media murders andintimidation,” Egco empha-sized.

He claimed the govern-ment is never passionateabout the matter, payingonly “lip service” and “un-fulfilled promises” to callsfor justice.

Earlier this year, the In-ternational Federation ofJournalists (IFJ) has identi-fied the Philippines asworld's second most dan-gerous place for journalistssecond to Iraq, where atleast 309 journalists havebeen killed in recent years.

For the past 25 years, theorganization said 146 jour-nalists were murdered in thePhilippines, about 30 ofwhich happened during thetime of Aquino.

Basilan now base of Malaysian militantsBASILAN – Governmenttroops killed a Malaysianmilitant in a recent clashwith Abu Sayyaf rebels in thetroubled province of Basilanin the Muslim autonomousregion in southern Philip-pines, a military report said.

It said hundreds ofarmy troops and pro-government militiaslaunched the weekend as-sault against the Abu Sayyafin the village of Macalang inAl-Barka town, a knownstronghold of the Moro Is-lamic Liberation Frontwhich signed an interimpeace deal with Manila in2014.

A small team of MILFmembers led by PulonKulalul also joined the armyin fighting the Abu Sayyaf. Two militias – AllaheroUjajin and Sarip Alista –

were injured in the clash af-ter they tripped on an AbuSayyaf landmine in the vil-lage.

Troops also recoveredthe body of the slain mili-tant, but his name was notimmediately made avail-able by the military exceptthat he was a Malaysian na-tional fighting alongside theAbu Sayyaf. At least 6 impro-vised explosives were alsorecovered from the encamp-ment of the Abu Sayyaf inSitio Bohe Buug.

It was the second timethat security forces killed aMalaysian militant in theprovince. In December lastyear, military forces alsokilled a Malaysian bomb ex-pert -Mohammad Hussein -during clashes with the AbuSayyaf also in Macalang vil-lage.

On March 25, govern-ment troops also killed anAbu Sayyaf sub-leader EricAjibun and one of his follow-ers in fierce clashes that left5 soldiers and two militiaswounded in Al-Barka town.

He added that the Su-preme Court alsodirected the Office of theCourt Administrator andthe Office of the Bar Con-fidant to conduct aninvestigation regardingthe RTC’s “highly ques-tionable” handling ofMacatanong’s petitionfor correction of her dateof birth.

“Macatanong’s casecaused a backlog in theMarawi City Schools Di-vision as it interruptedthe process of promotionamong teachers man-dated by law,” Mawallilstressed.

He also said theDepEd is investigatingreports that aspiringteachers had allegedlypaid as much as P300,000for a job in Marawi City.

Mawallil said theDepEd had appealed theRTC decision and even-tually appointed FaridaSansarona as officer-in-charge of the schooldivision. Sansarona wasthe former assistantschool division superin-tendent.

Despite this,Macatanong continuedacting as division super-intendent that resulted inconfusion among public-school teachers andaffected the DepEd op-erations in Marawi City.

“Macatanong alsowent to the SupremeCourt and filed a motionfor certiorari, but thiswas denied by the HighCourt,” Mawallil said.

He added that the le-gal proceedings againstthe former education of-

ficial had dragged on fortwo years and “the deci-sion of the SupremeCourt is a welcome devel-opment to all as this willset the record straightonce and for all.”

Mawallil said ARMMEducation Secretary JohnMagno also expressed re-lief. “We pursued legalaction because we knewthat the rule of law wason our side and this Su-preme Court decisionaffirms our position,” hequoted Magno as saying.

There was no imme-diate statement fromMacatanong, but her fol-lowers had repeatedlybesmirched the reputa-tions of Magno and thatof ARMM Gov. MujivHataman on social mediafollowing her removalfrom office.

OPINION: Is God fair?By Brother Danilo Cuarteros

IN MANY people's minds, fairness is everyone receiv-ing exactly what he or shedeserves. If God were com-pletely "fair," by thisdefinition, we would allspend eternity in hell pay-ing for our sin, which isexactly what we deserve. We have all sinned againstGod (Romans 3:23) andare therefore worthy ofeternal death (Romans6:23). If we "fairly" receivedwhat we deserve, we wouldend up in the lake of fire(Revelation 20:14-15). ButGod is merciful and good,so He manifested in theflesh and die on the crossin our place, taking thepunishment that we de-serve (2 Corinthians 5:21).All we have to do is believein Christ and receive waterbaptism in Jesus name(Acts 2:38) and we will besaved, and we will receivean eternal home in heaven(John 3:16). With the sacri-fice of Christ, Godmaintains His "fairness" inthat sin is adequately pun-ished.

A synonym for fair isjust, and the Bible is un-equivocal that God is just:"He is the Rock, his worksare perfect, and all his waysare just. A faithful God whodoes no wrong, upright

and just is he"(Deuteronomy 32:4; see also2 Chronicles 19:7; Romans9:14; and 2 Thessalonians1:6). God is "fair" in that Heis unbiased, honest, andjust. Peter, standing in aGentile's home and seeingthe work of the Holy Spirit, said, "I now realize how trueit is that God does not showfavoritism but accepts fromevery nation the one whofears him and does what isright" (Acts 10:34-35). God iseminently fair. He treats noone wrongly.

Despite God's lovinggrace, no one would believein Him on his own (Romans3:10-18). God has to draw usto Himself in order for us tobelieve ( John 6:44). Goddoes not draw everyone, butonly certain people He has

sovereignly chosen (Ro-mans 8:29-30; Ephesians1:5, 11). This does not seem"fair" in the eyes of thosewho believe fairness re-quires everyone to betreated exactly the sameway. In election, it appearsthat God is not treating allpeople equally. However,God does not have tochoose anyone. Again, itwould be entirely fair foreveryone to spend eternityin hell. God's saving someis not unfair to those whoremain unsaved, as theyare receiving preciselywhat they deserve.

Those whom God haschosen are receivingGod's love and grace. But,when God draws ourhearts and opens ourminds, we have the oppor-

tunity to respond to the rev-elation of the creationaround us (Psalm 19:1-3)and the conscience withinus (Romans 2:15) and turnto God. Those who do notrespond will receive whatthey truly deserve becauseof their rejection of Him.Their punishment is fair(John 3:18, 36). Those whobelieve are receiving farbetter than they deserve. Noone, though, is being pun-ished beyond what he orshe deserves. Is God fair?Yes. He is also gracious, merciful, and forgiving.

Thru the leading prayerof God's end time Prophet, our Beloved and HonorableEvangelist Pastor WildeEstrada Almeda, we canconvince the CPP/NPA/NDF in Jesus name!

If your battery isn'tcharging properly, don't im-mediately assume yourphone charger or your bat-tery is broken. Based onpersonal experience, theproblem – and solution –may be much simpler thanyou think. If your phone ortablet isn't charging properlyor at all, take a look at these10 ways to fix a phone thatwon't charge.

The problem occurs invarious degrees. Either yourphone won't charge at allwhen it is plugged in, or it willonly charge very slowly(sometimes barely fasterthan it is discharging). It’s avery common complaint, sohere are a few solutions.1. Do-I1. Do-I1. Do-I1. Do-I1. Do-It-Yt-Yt-Yt-Yt-Yourself USB porourself USB porourself USB porourself USB porourself USB porttttt

and often most successfulsolution, is to do a little DIYrepair on your actual hard-ware. The problem is oftenthat the metallic surfaces in-side the USB port and themicroUSB charger are notmaking good contact, eitherthrough a manufacturingdefect or because of the con-tinual plugging andunplugging of the chargingcable.

All you need to do is shutdown your device, removethe battery if possible anduse something small, such asa toothpick, to 'lever up' thelittle tab inside the USB porton your smartphone or tab-let. charger is the cable, not theadapter that plugs into thewall socket. Apple users areparticularly vulnerable herebecause Apple's proprietary(and expensive) Lightningcables appear to have a lifeexpectancy of around 15minutes. But all cables havea tough life, and endless flex-ing and curling can take itstoll. Substituting a randomUSB cable for the one thatcame with your phone is an-other shortcut to anunenjoyable charging expe-rience. The easiest way todiagnose a faulty cable is totry a different one and see ifthat works properly withyour device. If it does, youknow the original cable wasat fault. If it doesn't, that's an-other potential villain we'veruled out.

If the cable doesn't seemto be the problem, check thewall plug adapter – especially

if it's one where the chargingcable can be removed. We'veencountered issues in mul-tiple chargers where the USBport becomes a little looseafter endlessly plugging inand unplugging the cable.

Also check whether thesame charger/cable combi-nation works on a differentdevice, because this will helpyou eliminate the possibilitythat it is your device at fault, rather than the cable orcharger. You should alsomake sure there isn't a prob-lem with your wall socket.5. R5. R5. R5. R5. Remember – safety firstemember – safety firstemember – safety firstemember – safety firstemember – safety first

Don't charge yourphone near water or in ex-cessively hot or humidconditions. Do not over-charge your device; chargingovernight when your batteryonly needs two or threehours is a bad idea, and canlead to a battery exploding ordamaging your phone. Whileyour phone has a cut-offswitch for your battery, sometimes this doesn't work(you might remember allthose exploding battery sto-ries back in 2013). It's betterto be safe than sorry. Or burntto a crisp.

If you're replacing acharger or cable, be wary: theinternet is stuffed with re-ports of cheap third-partychargers that went bang inthe middle of the night orturned smartphones intotoast. As with any electricalequipment, make sure thatanything you buy complieswith all the relevant safetystandards.

To give you an idea ofhow much energy is stored inyour battery, check this videoout (but don't try it at home).

6. R6. R6. R6. R6. Replace the battereplace the battereplace the battereplace the battereplace the batteryyyyyBatteries don't last for-

If yourbattery's busted after just sixmonths, it's probably faultyand you should make a war-ranty claim for a freereplacement, but if thebattery's older than twoyears, it's probably ap-proaching the end of itslifespan.

Some defective batteriesare easy to spot because theystart to bulge or leak fluid. Ifnothing like that is obviousfrom the outside, removeyour device's cover and in-spect the battery (if you can;some devices have sealedbattery compartments).

If the cover doesn'tcome off, you could try lay-ing the device on its back andspinning it. A bulging batterywill deform the case – youmight not be able to see thisbulge, but it might be enoughto allow your phone to spin.If you suspect your batterymight be swollen or leaking, get your phone to a repairshop and buy a reputable re-placement.

Charging from a wallsocket will always be fasterthan charging via PC orlaptop, because computers'USB ports don't deliver verymuch power. A wall socketcan deliver twice as muchpower as a USB port, and fastchargers it can deliver asmuch as five times the power

– which means much, muchfaster charging. So if yourphone is charging slowly andyou're connected to a laptop:there's your problem.

If your wall chargerdoesn't appear to be deliver-ing the goods, check that it'sappropriate for your device.A charger from anotherphone might not deliver theright amount of juice — forexample, a charger for aBluetooth headset won't putout as much power as onedesigned specifically forsmartphones. In the case ofrecent high-end phones, youmight have a phone that sup-ports fast charging but acharger that doesn't deliverit. Read the fine-print.

Mindanao should stay intactDUMAGUETE CITY - SuluVice Governor Sakur Tan –who is running for governorin the Muslim autonomousregion in southern Philip-pines – has stronglyopposed any proposal todismember Mindanao, say-ing, there should be unityinstead among all Filipinosin there.

“There should be unitybecause we are all Filipinos,”Tan was quoted as saying bythe Visayan Daily Star.

It said Tan did not agreewith proposals by somegroups to divide Mindanao.“He doesn't like the idea thatcertain groups and commu-nities in Mindanao will beplaced on one side and theothers on another side,” thenewspaper report said, refer-ring to Tan, who recentlyvisited Dumaguete City andother parts of Negros Orien-tal province.

Tan said he would have

wished that the image ofMindanao be like that ofDumaguete, Cebu and therest of the Visayan regionwhere peace and tranquillitydominate. “Our image inMindanao is not that goodcompared to yours in theVisayas,” he said, adding hewanted to change the mis-conception about theMuslims in Mindanao.

He reiterated his vehe-ment objection to thepassage of the BangsamoroBasic Law that the Moro Is-lamic Liberation Front –which signed an interimpeace deal with Manila – ispushing in Congress.

Tan also thanked theDumagueteños andNegrenses for being “good tothe Tausug” as he reminiscedhis high school days inSilliman University where hestudied in 1963.

He said whether there isan election or not, he will al-

ways come back to visithere becauseDumagueteños are peace-loving citizens.

Tan also took the op-portunity to campaign inhere and in Negros Orien-tal for the Kusog-Tausugparty-list, whose first nomi-nee is Shernee Tan, a civicleader.

He said the party-listgroup is not only for theTausug in Mindanao, butfor all Filipinos, includingthose in Dumaguete andNegros Oriental.

Tan, who was with hisphilanthropic wife,Nurunisah – a registerednurse by profession – alsopaid their courtesy to Gov-ernor Roel Degamo andvisited Bacong town may-oralty candidate JoenyCahilog, who hails fromMindanao. (With reportsfrom Visayan Daily Star,Cebu Examiner.)
