FOREWORD
1. This standard, which provides a schedule of equipment for medical and dsntalfacilities, cancels and s~ersedcs IUL-STD-1691D of 3 September 1985.
2. The application information contained in this standard shall be applied inmilitary construction budgets and may be used to identify equipment forconstruction and renovation planning not included in a military constructionbudget.
3. All bufIt-in casework shall be fabricated and designated in accordance withMilitary Specification MIL-c-20709 (latest edition). All other casework shallbe designated, specified, snd installed in accord.ertcewith MILqPEC MIL-C-29240Casework - Moveable and Modular for Hospital Laboratories and Pharmacies,KIISPEC KIL-C-29241 Material Handling Units for Hedical Facilities, MIISPECHIL-F-28687 Frame, Mobile, Hospital Laboratories and Pharmacies, Military GuideSpec 11704, and other specifications as directed by tbe design agency.
4. The Joint Schedule Numbers (JSN) or the National Stock Numbers, within theMIL-SID 1691, shall not be used AS substitutes for contract specifications anddetail drawings.
●Citing JSN nunbsrs and nomenclatures will not relieve the
architect or design agency of the responsibility to verify and provide allnecessary detail drawings and specifications showing actual dimensions, utilityconnections, accessories, quantity, quality, and performance required.

1. SCOPE
1.1 $coue and Purnose~ This standard establishes a definite &marcationbetween the.various elements involved in the planning, funding, constructing,and equipping of the msdical and dsntal facilities of the Armed Services, andother us%ng agencies USPHS, Dept of Veteran Affairs. This standard provides auniform basis upon which the Medical Services can idsntify Items of conscruetionand material and fix logistical and fi-f.al responsibility thereof in anidentical manner.
1.2 cat%n~ This standard shall be applied to the architectural,financial and logistic planning, construction, and equipping of all msdical and&ntal facilities included in the military and other using agency budgets formadical construction appropriation funds, other procurement (investmentequipment) organizational mtifntenancefunds, and departmental operation funds ofthe using service or agency.

2. DEFINITIONS
2.1 @neral. As used in this standard for the schedule of items, che followingdefinitions pertain to:
(a) Fixed - fastened to walls, floors or ceiling, or to steam, gas,plumbing, electrical power, sensor lines in a permanentmanner.
(b) Portable - movable, including that equipment which is attached toutility lines by attachment plug, screw-on fitting, orquick discomect fittings, and that which is of suchsize and use that special consideration must be givento its location.
(c) Mobile - equipment on wheels or casters. I2.2 .Srhedule Terms. Terms used in the column headings and body of the scheduleare dafined as follows:

3. GENERAL RF@IREMEWH
3.1 Joint Schedule liumbers. The joint schedule numbers appearing in thisstandard shall be used to identify equipment on all architectural drawings,plsns, and supporting documents for Military/Fe&ral medical constructionprojects. The JSNS msy ba used to identify equipment for construction andrenovation planning not included in a military construction budget, but in thoseinstances, the column for “CAT* indicating logistical responsibility may bedisregarded.
3.2 ~. lhmds for itsms not includsd in this standard shall beincludsd in the appropriate operating or supply budget sstimates.
3.3 &dditions. Deletions. or ~. Additions, deletions, changes, andcorrections to this standard shall be made as directed by the 1691 commitcee.Items can be added to the database by any using service or agency. Deletions orchanges can be readsonly with cbe full committee’s concurrence. The DMFOmaintains and promulgates.

4. SUPPLSUENTAL INFORMATION
4.1 SJS nstructions
(a) Where reference to a specification is inclu&d in a JSN ttemdescription, items ldsntified as ‘A” in “wT. column of (AppendicesAthrough C) shall be procured against the latest authorized specification orpurchase description. Dssign agents and contractors (Architect andEngineers) shall assure that current specifications and their latestamendments or purcbs.se&scription shall be used In the procurement ofequipment supplied by the construction contractor.
(b) The using se~ice/agency shall be required to furnish information andparticipate in review of shop drawings and inspectiomc prior to acceptanceof technical equipment. Inquires shall be addressed to the appropriateauthority.
(c) Quality and type of equipment and furniture, e.g., stainless steel,steel, wood, gas fired, or electric, shall be determined by the usingse~ice/agency in each instance, based on ths intendsd life and mission ofthe facility and the location and circumstance under which construction isto be accomplished.
(d) When design and space limitations nacessftate substitution ofequipment in the preparation of drawings, these substitutions shall be ●coordinated with and approved by tbe using service/agency.
(a) Not all items listed in this standard necessarily apply to allconstruction projects. It is improbable that any project will include allitems. Items appearing on project equipment schedules that are not listedin this standard shall be assigned a number with a suffix code indicating aprovisional or interim schedule number shall be coordinated with andapprOved by the using service. It is not mandstory that every item which
aPPliee tO a sPecific prOject be listed in this standard.
(b) Expendable supplies, hand tools, and accessories have not beenIncluded in the standard.
(c) Unless otherwise specifically noted dimensions indicated mean:
Height - Outsi& dimensions bottom to top or floor to top, notincluding sloping tops or counter tops.
Width - Outside dimensions end to end across front.Depth - Outside dimensions from frent to back.
