Chemring provides a comprehensive suite of pyrotechnic stores that can be used for signalling in operation/theatre or training scenarios. PRODUCTS:• Signal Cartridges – manufactured in both 26.5mm and 38mm calibre, provide a bright signal for

ground and sea operations.

• Miniflare – compact launching system for a range of effects including: pinpoint location, aircraft warn-off signals, personal survival and as a less lethal warning device.

• Hand-fired Rocket – provides high intensity signalling at a greater height and range than a miniflare.

• Coloured Smoke Grenades – used in military training and operations for ground-to-air and ground-to-ground signalling; marking of landing and drop zones; wind speed and direction indicators; and search and rescue markers.

• Marine Smoke and Illumination Signal – intended for either day or night sighting by aircraft. The signal is a one-hand held operational device intended for rescue use.

• Parachutist Smoke Signal – used primarily for the enhancement of parachuting displays, but can be used in any situation where a large volume of coloured smoke is required.

• Marine Location Markers – designed for day or night use in any condition calling for long-burning smoke and flame reference-point marking on the ocean’s surface.

• Practice Bomb Marker – provides an indication of where the training bomb impacts so that pilot and ground observer can identify impact day and night.

• Ground Flare Indicating – for general ground-to-air signalling; marking of runways or helicopter landing areas and drop zone indicator for parachutists.

SCREENING AND OBSCURING

For rapid and highly effective concealment of troops and equipment in the visual, Infra-Red (IR) and laser wavelengths during training and operations. PRODUCTS:• Hand Thrown Smoke Grenades, with an output in visual

and/or IR, for use in various military training or operational exercises such as: rapid concealment of troops; removal of target opportunities; cover for the redeployment of friendly forces. The new Hand Thrown Compact Smoke Grenade is smaller and lighter than existing grenades but with the same

performance. It is ergonomically designed so is easier to grip and throw and easily removable from webbing/pouches without snagging.

• Vehicle Launched Grenades, with either visual and/or IR output are designed to be fired from Main Battle Tanks (MBT), Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) or any vehicle fitted with suitable launchers. They are manufactured in 66, 76 and 81mm configurations and will provide a rapid concealment for the platform in order to confuse enemy fire or make a concealed tactical manoeuvre.

ILLUMINATION

Chemring supplies highly effective visible, white light and IR illumination via a wide range of delivery mechanisms for enhanced situational awareness, identification and perimeter defence, and search and rescue applications.

PRODUCTS:

• Tripflares – enable combat troops in forward areas to: illuminate infiltrating enemy forces; protect camps, bridges, frontiers and depot stores; illuminate prohibited areas and ambush positions; and provide Forward Edge of Battle Areas (FEBA) security. This item can also be used as a signal as part of a multi-tiered non-lethal defence system.

• Rocket Hand-fired Para Illumination – for use in any situation where illumination is required. The rocket can be fired at varying elevations depending on user requirements

and is suitable for: identification and engagement, and internal security and counter-insurgency operations.

• Coloured Illumination Rounds – red, green and yellow illumination rounds in a ground illumination configuration or a parachute configuration – used for overhead illumination or ground target marking.

• Solar Flare™ – 40mm illumination round – provides a minimum of 70,000 candelas with a burn time of 30 seconds used for overhead illumination or ground target marking.

• Oracle™ – 40mm IR illumination round – provides IR illumination. The Oracle™ round provides the warfighter or police with IR illumination capabilities without compromising their position.

• Air Launched Illumination – deployed by air assets in both IR and white light to provide ground illumination for low level air and ground operations.

LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CROWD CONTROL

Stores for peace enforcement and internal security such as CS and stun grenades used mainly for warnings and crowd control, or to impede an adversary’s activities without fatal injury. PRODUCTS:• 38mm cartridges – can be fired from all 38mm riot guns.

Products include CS, Single baton, multi baton, 15mm ball, 8mm ball and training rounds.

• 40mm cartridges – can be fired from all 40mm launchers and riot guns. Products include CS, Single baton, multi baton, 15mm ball, 8mm ball and training rounds.

• CS smoke pellets – disperses CS in a smoke form which has long been recognised as the best way of deploying the agent in large open areas.

• Rubber bursting CS grenade – deploys multiple small CS payloads that cannot be used in retaliatory mode.

• Stun grenades – 1 bang, 2 bangs, 7 bangs, multi bang – diversionary assault grenades and crowd control grenades.

• First Responder – a fire-suppression grenade for first responders or to facilitate emergency egress in fire situations.

• Vehicle Launched Grenades – 66mm and 76mm CS grenades for use in situations where a large volume of irritant smoke is required to be fired from a vehicle. The range of the grenades and the rapid emission of smoke make it a very effective method of crowd control. A training version containing non-irritant red smoke is also available.

INNOVATION

Chemring has developed a range of innovative pyrotechnic and payload products.

PRODUCTS:• Infrared Marker Device™ (IMD) is a unique product

developed by Alloy Surfaces that uses pyrophoric material that reacts when exposed to air. This small portable device can be used to signal covertly to locate friendly ground forces. The IMD is deployed by simply removing the top and throwing the battery-sized device into the air or on the ground. As the signature material is released from its container, it emits an IR energy which can be seen with aircraft targeting pods in the Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR). Alloy Surfaces has also developed a Covert Position Marker (CPM) that is in the same configuration as the IMD, but cannot be detected by Night Vision Devices.

• Multiple Effect Trip-flare System (METS) is a unique trip system providing advanced safety with zero chance of

payload ignition until final stage of set-up. Modular payload options: illumination, infra-red and smoke.

• High-altitude Unit Navigated Tactical Imaging Round (HUNTIR™) is a 40mm camera parachute round which can be fired from any low velocity grenade launcher and, in conjunction with a dedicated video receiving unit, provides real-time streaming video and a series of high resolution images of the surrounding battlefield.

• Low Toxicity Smoke payloads are currently under development and are being designed to replace current smoke payloads with a next generation, non-phosphorus based solution.

• IR Illumination payloads have been supplied and are being developed using the latest technology to produce the highest levels of IR output with minimal white light. Performance can be matched to customer requirements and the constraints of payload dimensions.

40MM GRENADE AMMUNITION

PRODUCTS:Chemring produces low and high velocity High Explosive (HE) and High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) ammunition. Chemring also produces a new family of 40mm extended range low velocity ammunition for under-slung infantry rifle grenade launchers (multi-shot and single-shot). ‘Mercury’ extended range low velocity ammunition transforms the capability of in-service low velocity grenade launchers by offering double the effective range over conventional low velocity

ammunition. Mercury provides the dismounted soldier with increased indirect firepower capability at ranges out to 600m and the ability to more accurately engage direct fire targets. Hellhound™ is best utilized in close urban warfare settings with door breaching capabilities. A replacement for the standard low velocity round, Hellhound™ delivers twice the explosive fill with an enhanced fragmentation pattern. It is available in both HE and HEDP for increased flexibility.

Chemring offers lightweight portable products designed to create a safe passage through mined and high IED threat areas. Reusable, inert training versions are also available.

MINE AND OBSTACLE BREACHING SYSTEMSChemring is the leading manufacturer of man-portable Obstacle Breaching Systems for quickly clearing safe passageways through minefields and other obstacles.

PRODUCTS:SABREX

SABREX is a flexible linear cutting charge designed to release a fine, fast and stable cutting jet to defeat a wide range of target materials. It contains DPX9, an RDX-based plastic explosive which has been specifically developed for this application. SABREX is the most highly-developed explosive cutting tool on the market and provides Demolition Engineers, Breachers, EOD Specialists and Special Forces with an outstanding capability on land and a unique capability under water. PE8

PE8 is a plastic explosive which is mouldable by hand to form demolition charges of various shapes and weights without leaving residue on the hands. PE8 is fully compliant with the UN Convention on the Marking of Plastic Explosives for the Purposes

of Detection and is an insensitive RDX based High Explosive suitable for EOD or general demolition tasks. The specially formulated insensitive explosive composition provides a high level of safety whilst maintaining peak performance for metal cutting. It is waterproof and may be deployed underwater if necessary. Charge Demolition Sheet Explosive – SX4 (DPX9)

Sheet Explosive SX4 is an insensitive RDX-based, high explosive suitable for explosive ordnance disposal or general demolition tasks. The specially formulated explosive composition provides a high level of safety whilst maintaining peak performance for metal cutting where minimum shock wave and noise levels are required. SX4 may be used underwater if required and is easily cut with a sharp knife or scissors into precise shapes to match the charge to the target. Bangalore Torpedo

Chemring’s Advanced Performance Bangalore Torpedo is a 1 meter long, aluminium body filled with 2kg of High Density Pressed Explosive. It is designed to provide enhanced blast and fragmentation capable of cutting up to 6mm steel plate and defeating razor wire and other barricades. Up to 8 tubes can be joined quickly for deeper breaching. Other Products
