Mike Healey, popular modern Scottish Colourist painter, returns to Thompson’s Gallery for his latest exhibition of new paintings.
Born in the Amazon region of Brazil in 1951, Healey was educated in far more familiar territories such as London, Henley-on-Thames and his beloved Scotland, where he now resides.
Healey is a Glasgow School of Art graduate, studied under John Cunningham, awarded Associate of Glasgow School of Art (AGSA) whose early talents lead him to win the Haldane Drawing Prize and a Leverhulme Post Graduate travel bursary to USA.
The artist returned to Brazil between 1976-81 where he practiced as both artist and designer, a career that resumed between 1981-3 on his return to the UK. He soon after became a tutor at Glasgow School of Art from 1983-97, whereby he had his first exhibition with Thompson’s Gallery in 2000. We now welcome Mike Healey back to Thompson’s Gallery for his ninth solo exhibition with us.
Healey’s work can be found in several public, corporate and private collections worldwide, including the European Parliament, the Royal Mail, Woburn Abbey, Glasgow School of Art, Argyll and Bute Museum and Libraries, the Scottish Education Department and The Collection, Bermuda, under the Patronship of HRH the Prince of Wales. The Bank of Scotland, Coutts Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland have several paintings for their permanent public collections and Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a painting (2013) – as seen in Thompson’s Gallery’s last exhibition with the artist, ‘A Jubilee Year in Paintings’.
Mike Healey was awarded the lifetime Chair of Professor of Art and Design at the University of Lincoln in 2003.
