Greater Noida September 24, 2015

24/09/2015 at Bhartiya Adarsh Inter College, Dadri, Greater Noida. The theme

of the program was women and child rights, the students from the law school

performed skits and delivered legal awareness speeches on issues of right to

education, child marriage, child labour, female feticide and offence against

women.

The audience for the event comprised of school students, teachers and parents,

who were made aware about their legal rights and recent legal development in

the country.

The first skit was based upon “FIR”. The message given by the skit was that it is

the right of every citizen to have his complaint registered with the police.

Concerns were expressed that very often if people go to register a FIR, there are

obstacles that they have to experience, problems arising out of the existence of

vested interests. These types of concerns can be addressed only when people

are well acquainted of their rights.

Next, a poem was recited by Law School student Ms. Shubham Singh titled

“mera kya gunaah hai agar bhagwan ne mujhe ladki chuna hai?” The poem

raised the issue of female foeticide and delivered a strong message to curb this

evil practice. “Women Empowerment” was the theme of three other skits which

showed the atrocities committed on women during their lifetime and how

women can fight against such atrocities. What are the legal remedies and

recourse available to her to fight this abuse? Anything that makes a woman feel

inferior and takes away her self-respect is abuse.

The audience was also made aware about their rights as a consumer. It is the

right to have information about the quality, potency, quantity, purity, price etc

and the consumer is to be protected against unfair trade practices. In addition

to all this, a speech was given by Law School student Mr.Utkarsh Mudotiya on

“Women Empowerment”. A number of women related problems in the society

were raised with information on access to justice, it was a motivational speech

which garnered great response from the audience specially the girl students of

the school.
