Legendary bad road conditions did not deter 104 Zone 8 residents from making the long trip down to Calgary to partici-pate in the 2013 Alberta 55 Plus Winter Games. Zone 8 was awarded the Spirit of Participation Award at the closing ceremonies, awarded to the Zone most exemplifying the true spirit of good sportsmanship and personal integrity in and out of competition.
Shown accepting the award are Norma and Merlin Estabrooks, who along with team members Eleanor Graw and Lee Rasmussen won a gold medal in the 70+ POA Mixed 5-Pin Bowling event. They also won gold in 2011 and Silver in 2009, but their biggest win of all will be their 60th Wedding Anniversary this summer!

Zone 8 Team Members!!
Did you notice that some
of the team members win-
ning medals for Zone 8
come from outside the
Zone? That’s because the
Games allowed fill-ins
from other zones where we
weren’t able to field partic-
ipants. These folk put
forth their best efforts on
our behalf, and we thank
them for their hard work!

2013 Provincial Summer Games: Zone 8 Playoff Schedule
We are sad to report that Cecile
Lefebvre passed away recently. She
was an active member of her community
and the Zone 8 executive, serving as
Area 2 Director for many years. She was
our ‘Casino’ expert, making it a painless
experience for all of us! Cecile was al-
ways ready to help a lending hand, and
was awarded the 55Plus Appreciation Award in 2011. She
will be sorely missed by all of us.
The 2013 Alberta 55Plus Summer Games are being held in Bar-
rhead/Westlock this year—not too far away!! Let’s make sure we send a full team
this year. To start that off, make sure you participate in the playoff event of your
choice, and encourage everyone you know to do the same. Don’t forget, the 2014
Canada 55Plus games will be held in Strathcona County—practically next door!!!
