Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome to our “End of Year” edition of the Acorn!
Thank you for your consistent and positive support for a very successful year.
There is so much to celebrate, including our recent outstanding Ofsted inspection.
A summary of the most recent activities/ news/events follows.
Sports Day on Friday 29th June was a great success. The
children all took part in the carousel activities and track events, culminating in wins for the Bridles team in the
morning and the Fairmiles in the afternoon.
Thank you to the Friends of School for the ice pops which provided much needed cold refreshment at the end of the
sporting activities! Thank you also to the students from the Beccles Free
School for their encouragement and
support of the children, and all the parents who loaned us gazebos and
came along to support their children.
Summer Concert
It was amazing to see how musically talented
so many of our pupils are! This was showcased
in a wonderful Summer Concert on Tuesday
2nd
July.
Well done to all the children and thanks to
Mr Eden, Mr Winkworth, Mr Buck
and Mrs Horsley.
School Trips
The EYFS had a brilliant day at Bewilderwood, exploring and being imaginative. Our first school trip
was fantastic!
The KS1 children enjoyed a visit to Carlton Marshes on 20
th June. We were delighted to receive an email
from the Carlton Marshes staff, who commented on how fantastic the children were – a credit to
themselves and the school.
The LKS2 children have fabulous memories of their stone age workshop in the Spring term and
everyone enjoyed their Christian workshops on 3rd
July. One group is looking forward to theirs on 16
th July.
On Friday 6th July the UKS2 children had an exciting
and informative visit to Dunwich Beach. Whilst there, they deepened their understanding of longshore drift by
observing the
movement of a tennis ball in the
water, empathised
with the monks who witnessed
the dissolution of the monasteries, as well as finding out more
of the history of Dunwich through its church and museum. The afternoon culminated with the creation of
beach art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.
Mystery at Magpie Manor The Year 5/6 play “Mystery at Magpie Manor” was well attended on both Tuesday 10th and
Wednesday 11th July. Thank you to the children for entertaining us
with two wonderful performances.
Transition Morning All children will visit their new classes
and meet their new teacher on the morning of Thursday 19th July.
We welcome Miss Bethany Cleghorn to our
teaching team from September 2018. We hope
you will join with us in making sure she feels
welcome and soon settles at Worlingham CEVC
Primary.
Mrs Wendy Jennings is still teaching at our
school, but in a different role. Her focus will
be helping those children who are at risk of
falling behind. These children will have
additional opportunities for catch up and over
learning programmes.
We say goodbye to our 43 Year 6 pupils and
wish them lots of luck in their High Schools –
Pakefield, Hobart, Bungay and Sir John Leman.
Thank you for being such a vibrant and
interesting group of children.
Have a fabulous Summer holiday with your friends and family.
We welcome the children back to their new classes on Thursday 6th September.
Please bring all Year 1 and 2 children to the area outside the KS1 classes and Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 children to meet on the back playground where
their teachers will be ready to greet them.
Yours sincerely Mrs V O’Brien
If your child has a medical care plan, please could you ensure it is up to date for the new academic
year. Please also check the dates of any medication kept in school. Thank you.
