the installation instructions.

The electrical socket must be eas-ily accessible after the dishwasher

has been installed.

In order to ensure stability, built-un-der and integrated dishwashers

must only be installed under a continu-ous worktop which is secured to adja-cent cabinetry.

The dishwasher must not be in-stalled under a hob. The high radi-

ant temperatures which are sometimesgenerated by a hob could damage thedishwasher.

Do not connect the dishwasher tothe mains supply until it has been

installed.

Check that the voltage, frequencyand fuse rating shown on the data

plate match the household mains sup-ply.

The electrical safety of this appli-ance can only be guaranteed when

continuity is complete between the ap-pliance and an effective earthing sys-tem. It is most important that this basicsafety requirement is tested and wherethere is any doubt, the electrical systemin the house is checked by a qualifiedelectrician. The manufacturer cannot be held re-sponsible for the consequences of aninadequate earthing system (e.g. elec-tric shock).

Warning and Safety instructions

This equipment is not designed formaritime use or for use in mobile

installations such as caravans, aircraftetc. However it may be suitable forsuch usage subject to a risk assess-ment of the installation being carriedout by a suitably qualified engineer.

A damaged machine is dangerous.Switch off at the mains and call

your Miele supplier or the Miele ServiceDepartment.

The plastic housing of the waterconnection contains an electrical

component. The housing must thereforenot be dipped in water.

There are live wires in the water in-let hose. Never cut the water inlet

hose, even if it is too long.

For safety reasons do not operatethis appliance on an extension ca-

ble. (Danger of overheating).

Daily useDo not use solvents in the dish-washer. Danger of explosion.

Water in the dishwasher must notbe used as drinking water. This wa-

ter is not drinking water.

Avoid inhalation of powder deter-gents. Do not ingest dishwasher

detergent! Dishwasher detergents con-tain irritant or corrosive ingredients. They can cause burning in the nose, mouth and throat if swallowed, or inhibitbreathing. Consult a doctor immediate-ly if detergent has been swallowed orinhaled.

Do not sit or lean on the openeddoor. This could cause the dish-

washer to tip and be damaged and youcould get injured.

In an appliance with a cutlery bas-ket (depending on model) cutlery

is cleaned and dried more efficiently ifplaced in the basket with the handlesdownwards. However, to avoid the riskof injury place cutlery with sharp pointswith the handles upwards.

Only use detergents formulated fordomestic dishwashers. Do not use

washing-up liquid.

Only use rinse aid formulated fordomestic dishwashers.

Only use special coarse graineddishwasher salt for reactivation.

Do not use other salts such as cookingsalt, agricultural grade or gritting salt. These may contain insoluble additiveswhich can impair the functioning of thewater softener.

Plastic items which cannot with-stand being washed in hot water,

such as disposable plastic containers,or plastic cutlery and crockery shouldnot be cleaned in the dishwasher. Thehigh temperatures in the dishwashermay cause them to melt or lose shape.

Warning and Safety instructions

7

Take care on dishwashers with avisible heater element(depending on model)

Do not touch the heating elementduring or directly after the end of a

programme. It will be hot. Danger ofburning!

Some plastic items could melt orcatch fire if they were to come into

contact with the heating element. Therefore always place plastic items orany other items which may not be com-pletely heat resistant in the upper bas-ket and ensure they cannot drop downonto the heater element.Any items which are too small to belodged securely in the upper basketshould not be cleaned in the dish-washer.

Safety with childrenDo not allow children to play in oraround the dishwasher, or to oper-

Energy saving washingThis dishwasher is exceptionally eco-nomical in its use of water and electric-ity. You can make the most of your ap-pliance by following these tips:

^ If your household water system issuitable, this dishwasher can be con-nected to a hot water supply, for fur-ther economies.Although all stages of the wash thentake place with hot water, savings aremade in:- the use of primary energy,- costs,- programme running times. If, however, your water is heated byelectricity we would still recommendconnection to cold water.

^ For most economical dishwashingmake full use of the baskets withoutoverloading the dishwasher.

^ Choose the programme to suit thetype of crockery being washed andthe degree of soiling.

^ Select the Economy programme forenergy-saving dishwashing.

^ Use the correct amounts of deter-gent.

^ Use only 2/3 of the given dosage ifbaskets are only half full.

Caring for the environment

10

Before using the appliance forthe first time you require:– approx. 2 litres of water,

– approx. 2 kg dishwasher reactivationsalt,

– domestic dishwasher detergent,

Water softenerIn order to achieve good cleaning re-sults, the dishwasher needs to operatewith soft water. Hard water results in thebuild-up of calcium deposits on crock-ery and in the dishwasher.Mains water with a hardness levelhigher than 0.7 mmol/l (4° d - Germanscale) needs to be softened. This takesplace automatically in the integratedwater softener.

– The water softener must be filled withdishwasher salt for reactivation.

– The dishwasher must be pro-grammed to correspond to the waterhardness in your area.

– Your local water authority will be ableto advise you of the water hardnesslevel in your area.

Where the water hardness fluctuatese.g. between 1.4 - 3.1 mmol/l (8 - 17 °dGerman scale) always programme thedishwasher to the higher value(3.1 mmol/l in this example).

In the event of a fault, it will help theservice technician if you know the hard-ness of your local water supply.

^ Enter the water hardness below:

mmol/l or °d

Filling the salt reservoir

If the water in your area is very softand constantly lower than 0.7 mmol/l(4 °d) you do not need to add dish-washer salt. The water softener must, however, still be programmed to correspondto the water hardness level in yourarea. (The salt indicator light will stillcome on, but should be ignored).

Important: Before filling the salt res-ervoir with dishwasher salt for thefirst time, you must fill it with approx.2 litres of water to enable the salt todissolve. Once the dishwasher hasbeen used, there is always sufficientwater in the reservoir.

,Inadvertently filling the salt reser-voir with powder or liquid dish-washer detergent always leads toserious damage to the water soft-ener. Make sure you have picked upthe correct packet of dishwasher saltbefore filling the salt reservoir!

,Only use special coarse graineddishwasher salt for reactivation. Donot use other salts such as cookingsalt, agricultural grade or grittingsalt. These may contain insolubleadditives which can impair the func-tioning of the water softener.

^ Remove the lower basket and un-screw the salt reservoir cap.

^ Fill the reservoir with approx. 2 litresof water (first use).

^ Place the funnel provided over thesalt reservoir and carefully fill with saltuntil the reservoir is full. The salt res-ervoir holds approx. 2 kg of salt de-pending on the brand used.

As the salt reservoir is filled, displacedwater will overflow.

^ Clean any excess salt from aroundthe reservoir opening and then screwthe cap on again firmly.

^ Run the "Pre-wash" programme im-mediately to remove any traces ofsalt water from the cabinet.

Before using for the first time

16

Salt indicatorThe salt indicator light comes on to no-tify you that the reservoir is empty.

^ The reservoir should then be refilledwith dishwasher salt for reactivation.(See: Filling the salt reservoir).

After the reservoir has been filled, thewater softener is automatically reacti-vated the next time the dishwasher isrun. The salt indicator light may still beilluminated during this process. It willgo out once the salt concentration hasreached the correct level.

Note

If the water in your area is very soft andconstantly lower than 0.7 mmol (4 °d)you do not need to add salt to the res-ervoir. The salt indicator light, however, will still come on, but should be ig-nored.

(See "After sales service" for definitionof "PC").

Before using for the first time

17

Rinse aidRinse aid is necessary to ensure waterdoes not cling and leave marks oncrockery during the drying phase.Rinse aid is poured into the storage res-ervoir and the amount set is dispensedautomatically.

,Inadvertently filling the rinse aidreservoir with powder or liquid dish-washer detergent always causes se-rious damage to the reservoir. Onlypour rinse aid formulated for domes-tic dishwashers into the reservoir.

Alternatively, it is possible to use

– Household vinegar with a max. 5%acid content

or

– Liquid citric acid up to 50% acidcontent.

The resulting rinsing and drying qualitywill not, however, be as good as whenrinse aid is used.

,Do not use vinegar with a higheracid content (e.g. vinegar essence25% acid). This must not be used asits use would damage the dish-washer.

Adding rinse aid

^ Press the button in the direction ofthe arrow until the flap springs open.

Before using for the first time

18

^ Add rinse aid only until it is visible onthe surface of the filter in theopening.

The rinse aid reservoir holds approx.130 ml.

^ Close the flap firmly so that it clicksinto place. Otherwise water would en-ter the rinse aid reservoir during aprogramme.

^ Wipe up any spilled rinse aid. Thisprevents over-foaming occuring dur-ing the next programme.

Rinse aid indicatorThe Rinse aid indicator light on the fas-cia comes on when the rinse aid reser-voir needs to be replenished.

When the light comes on the reservoirstill contains sufficient rinse aid for 2 - 3programmes.

^ Add rinse aid in plenty of time.

Before using for the first time

19

Setting the rinse aid dosage

The dosage selector has settings from1-6. It is set to "3" (3 ml) at the factory.Approx. 3 ml of rinse aid are then usedper programme. This is a recom-mended setting.

If spots appear on crockery and glass-ware:

^ Use a higher setting.

If clouding or smearing appears oncrockery and glassware:

^ Use a lower setting.

Before using for the first time

20

Note^ Remove coarse food residues from

crockery.

There is no need to rinse items underrunning water.

,Do not wash items soiled withash, sand, wax, lubricating greaseor paint in the dishwasher. Ash doesnot dissolve and is distributed in thewash cabinet. Wax, sand, lubricatinggrease and paint cause damage tothe dishwasher.

Crockery can be loaded anywhere inthe baskets, but the following notesshould be observed:

^ Do not place crockery and cutlery in-side other pieces where they may beconcealed.

^ Load the crockery so that water canaccess all surfaces. This ensures thatit is properly cleaned.

^ Make sure that all items are securelypositioned.

^ Hollow items such as cups, glasses, pans, etc. must be inverted in thebasket.

^ Tall, narrow, hollow items, e.g. cham-pagne glasses, should be placed inthe centre of the basket to ensurebetter water coverage.

^ Deep based items should be placedat an angle so that water can run offthem freely.

^ The spray arms must not be blockedby items which are too tall or hangthrough the baskets. If in doubt, test for free movement bymanually rotating the spray arms.

^ Make sure that small items do not fallthrough the holders in the baskets.Small items, e.g. lids, should there-fore be placed in the cutlery tray orcutlery basket.

Some foodstuffs may contain naturaldyes, e.g. carrots, tomatoes orketchup. Plastic items in the dish-washer may discolour if large quan-tities of these foodstuffs find theirway into the appliance on the crock-ery. The stability of plastic items isnot affected by this discolouration.

When the dishwasher is beingloaded food and drink residue maydrip onto the sides of the dish-washer door. These surfaces are outside the washcabinet and are not accessed bywater from the spray arms.Food residue should therefore bewiped away before the dishwasherdoor is closed.

Dishwashers with a cutlery tray (SC)

For best results cutlery should begrouped in zones, one for knives, onefor forks, one for spoons, etc.Thismakes unloading much easier.

Place the blades of knives and theprongs of forks between the holders.Spoons, on the other hand, should beplaced with the handles between theholders.

Longer items such as soup ladles, cakeslices, mixing spoons and long knivesshould be placed lengthwise in the in-dentation in the middle of the cutlerytray.

The upper spray arm must not beblocked by items which are too big(e.g. cake slices).

The cutlery tray insert is removable.

Spoon heads should be placed in con-tact with at least one of the serrated re-tainers on the base of the cutlery tray toensure that water runs off them freely.

If spoon handles do not fit between theholders then lay them the other wayround making sure that the head of thespoon is in contact with the support onthe bottom of the tray.

Items not suitable fordishwashers:– Wooden cutlery and crockery or

items with wooden parts: these maydiscolour and fade. The glue used inthese items is not dishwasher-proofand wooden handles may comeloose after being washed in a dish-washer.

– Craft items, antiques, valuable vasesand decorative glassware are alsonot suitable for dishwashers.

– Plastic items which are not heat re-sistant. The high temperatures in thedishwasher may cause them to meltor lose shape.

– Copper, brass, tin and aluminiumitems may discolour or become matt.

– Colours painted over a glaze mayfade after a number of washes.

– Clouding may occur on glasses afterfrequent washing. Do not washglassware containing lead crystal ina dishwasher.

We recommend:

– When purchasing new crockery andcutlery, make sure they are dish-washer-proof.

– There are no standard guidelines forwashing glassware. When in doubt, wash glassware by hand.

– If delicate glassware is washed in thedishwasher ensure that only very lowtemperatures are used (seeprogramme chart). This will reducethe risk of clouding.

Please note

Silverware previously cleaned with asilver polish may still be damp or spot-ted at the end of a programme, wherewater has not run off smoothly. It mayneed rubbing dry with a soft cloth. Sil-ver treated in a silver immersion dip isusually dry at the end of a programmebut may discolour.

Silver which has been in contact withfoods containing sulphur can discolour. These include egg yolk, onions, mayon-naise, mustard, pulses, fish, fish brineand marinades.

,Aluminium components (e.g. agrease filter) must not be cleanedwith caustic alkaline commercial orindustrial cleaning agents. Thesemay damage material, or in extremecases, cause severe chemical reac-tion. See section "Adding detergent"for information on suitable deter-gents.

Operating the dishwasher

37

Check your dishwasher regularly(approx. every 4 - 6 months). Thisway faults and problems can beavoided.

Cleaning the filters in the washcabinetThe filter combination in the base of thewash cabinet retains coarse soil fromthe suds solution, preventing it access-ing the circulation system and re-enter-ing the cabinet through the spray arms.

,The dishwasher must not beused without all the filters in place.

Collection of coarse soil may cause thefilters to clog.Check the filter combination regularly(every 4 - 6 months) and clean if neces-sary.

^ Switch the dishwasher off before-hand.

^ Turn the handle anti-clockwise to re-lease the filter combination.

^ Lift the filter combination out of thedishwasher. Remove any coarse par-ticles and rinse the filter under run-ning water. Use a nylon brush if nec-essary.

Cleaning and care

38

To clean the underside of the filter, theflap must be opened:

^ Pull back the yellow clip to do this.

^ Rinse all parts under running water, using a nylon brush if necessary.

^ Then close the flap so that the clipengages. Important: After cleaningmake sure that the clip has properlyengaged.

^ Replace the filter combination so thatit lies flat in the base of the wash cab-inet.

^ Secure the filter by turning the handlein a clockwise direction.

,Take care when you are fittingthe filter combination that it is se-cured in position correctly. Other-wise coarse soil could get into thecirculation system and cause ablockage.

Cleaning and care

39

Cleaning the spray armsParticles of food can get stuck in thespray arm jets and bearings. The sprayarms should therefore be inspectedand cleaned regularly (approx. every4 - 6 months).

^ Switch the dishwasher off before-hand.

Cleaning the door and the doorseal^ Wipe the door seals regularly with a

damp cloth to remove food deposits.

^ When the dishwasher is being loadedfood and drink residue may drip ontothe sides of the dishwasher door. These surfaces are outside the washcabinet and are not accessed by wa-ter from the spray arms. Any soilingshould be wiped off these surfacesbefore the door is closed.

Cleaning the control panel anddoor front panelPlastic panels:^ This type of panel should only be

wiped with a damp cloth or suitablecleaning agent designed for use onplastic.

,Do not use abrasive cleaningagents, glass cleaning agents orall-purpose cleaners. Because oftheir chemical composition theycould cause serious damage toplastic surfaces.

Stainless steel panels:^ Clean using a proprietary non-abra-

sive cleaning agent designed specifi-cally for use on stainless steel. To helpprevent re-soiling, proprietary condi-tioning agents for stainless steel canalso be used. Apply sparingly with aneven pressure in the direction of thegrain.

Aluminium panels:Aluminium is affected by the way thatlight falls on it, by the surrounding envi-ronment and by the angle you observeit from.Aluminium is susceptible to scratchingand abrasion and must be treated withdue care.

^ Soiling should be removed as soonas possible using a damp cloth and alittle washing up liquid.

,Aluminium surfaces and controlsmay suffer discolouration or damageif soiling is left on them for too long.

Cleaning and care

41

Wood door front panels:^ Door fronts made from wood should

only be cleaned using a damp cham-ois leather and then dried with a softcloth.

,Do not use any cleaning agentscontaining ammonia or thinners. These would damage the surfacestructure.

E-Cloth:A microfibre "E-Cloth" is available fromthe Miele UK Spare Parts Department,Part number 98013530, which is suit-able for cleaning surfaces such asstainless steel, glass, plastic andchrome without the use of chemicals.

Cleaning the water inlet filterA filter is incorporated in the screw con-nection of the valve on the water inlethose. The filter must be cleaned whendirty, otherwise insufficient water flowsinto the wash cabinet.

,The plastic housing of the waterconnection contains an electricalcomponent. It must not be dipped inwater.

Recommendation

If the mains water contains a largenumber of insoluble substances, werecommend fitting a large-area filter inthe connection between the stopcockand the water inlet hose threaded un-ion. This filter is available from the MieleSpares Dept.

Cleaning the filter:

^ Disconnect the dishwasher from themains supply (switch off at the mainssocket, pull out the plug , switch offthe appropriate circuit at the fuse boxor withdraw the mains fuse).

^ Turn off the stopcock.

^ Unscrew the inlet hose.

^ Carefully remove the rubber seal.

^ Withdraw the filter using pointed pli-ers and rinse clean under runningwater.

^ Replace the filter and seal, makingsure they are sitting correctly.

^ Reconnect the inlet hose to the stop-cock, making sure it goes on cor-rectly and is not cross-threaded.

^ Turn on the stopcock gradually to testfor leaks. If there is a leak, the inlethose might not be on securely, or itmay have been screwed on at an an-gle. Unscrew and reconnect the wa-ter inlet valve correctly.

Solving problems

52

Cleaning the drain pump andnon-return valveIf the water has not been pumped awayat the end of a programme the drainpump or the non-return valve might beblocked. They are, however, easy toclean. Watch out for glass or bonesplinters which could cause injury.

^ Take the filter combination out of thewash cabinet (see "Cleaning andcare", "Cleaning the filters in the washcabinet").

^ Scoop the water out of the cabinetusing a suitable container.

^ Raise the locking clamp for thenon-return valve.

Solving problems

53

^ Lift up the non-return valve and rinsewell under running water.

^ Remove all foreign objects from thenon-return valve.
