PRAYER
M: Lord God, you have brought us safely to this time of quiet Advent reflection. Thank
you for providing everything we need for body and life. Bless us who have gathered
in your name. Forgive our sins. Speak to our hearts and prepare them for the
coming of your Son. Dispel our sorrows with the comfort of your Word and receive
our hymns of thanks and praise, through Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, who
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: Amen.
Let My Prayer Rise Before You (sung)
Let my prayer rise before you as incense,
the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
O Lord, I call to you; come to me quickly;
Hear my voice when I cry to you.
Let my prayer rise be-fore you as incense,
the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
M: Let our prayers be acceptable in your sight. Come and help us in time of need that we
may sing your praise in holy joy now and forever, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
C: Amen
OPENING SENTENCES
M: O Lord, open my lips.
C: And my mouth shall declare your praise.
M: Hasten to save me, O God.
C: O Lord, come quickly to help me.
M: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.

PSALM 130 Christian Worship Page 114 Congregation (Refrain); Vocalist (Verses)
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;*
O Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive*
to my cry for mercy.
If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins,*
O Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness;*
therefore you are feared.
Refrain
I wait for the LORD and in his Word I put my hope.*
My soul waits for the Lord more than
watchmen wait for the morning.

LESSON Hebrews 10:19-25
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy
Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the
curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us
draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith
brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having
our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we
profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one
another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in
the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day
approaching.
SEASONAL RESPONSE
M: The Lord will come again in glory.
C: The Spirit and the Church cry out: Come, Lord Jesus, come.
O Israel, put your hope in the LORD,*
for with the LORD is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son*
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,*
is now, and will be forever. Amen.

PRAYER
M: O God our Father, by your mercy and might, the world turns safely into darkness
and returns again to light. We place into your hands our unfinished tasks, our
unsolved problems, and our unfulfilled hopes, knowing that only what you bless
will prosper.
C: To your great love and protection we commit each other and all those we love,
knowing that you alone are our sure defender.
M: O Lord, support us all the day long, till the shadows lengthen and the evening comes
and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over and our work is done.
C: Then in your mercy, grant us a safe lodging and a holy rest and peace at the
last. Amen.
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
PRAYER FOR PEACE
M: Lord God, all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works come from you.
Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts
may be set to obey your commandments. Defend us also from the fear of our
enemies that we may live in peace and quietness, through the merits of Jesus Christ
our Savior, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and
forever.
C: Amen.
M: Let us praise the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God. (Spoken)
9
BLESSING
M: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy
Spirit be with you all.
C: Amen. (Spoken)
