New Faces999 Peachtree welcomes a couple of new neighbors just in time for the holidays: Bunnell Idea Group and Pop-Up Store
Midtown Pop-UpDecember 2 - 5, 999 Peachtree, the Margaret Mitchell House and other locations TBD, will be participating in a stylish shopping event. Dotting Peachtree's Midtown Mile, several "pop-up shops" will create a holiday shop-ping experience like no other in town with brands like Alternative Apparel, Les Nouvelles (represent-ing Rag & Bone, Jenni Kayne and more), Bella Cucina and more. Visit the "MidtownPopUpShop" on Facebook for updates and Pop Up Shop loca-tions and vendors.
Midtown Alliance and 999 Peachtree have
teamed up to bring a weekly open air market to Midtown Atlanta. While farmer's markets aren't new to Midtown (Piedmont Park hosts the Green Mar-ket every Saturday from May 1 to December 11), Midtown Market at 999 Peachtree offers neighbors a much needed mid-week opportunity to restock their seasonal veggie supplies.
The Midtown Market operates every Wednes-day from 4pm to 7pm. Offerings include fruit and veggies from TaylOr-ganics Farms, eggs from ManyFold Farms and
pasture raised chicken by Plow Point as well as fresh bread, coffee, ice cream, homemade popsicles, gourmet sundries and a "Farmers' Happy Hour" at Empire State South. Follow "MidtownATL" on Face-book to stay up to date on Midtown Market.

Pimento Cheese ~ 4 cups
1 lb. sharp white ched-•dar (I like an 18 month old)2 lg. sweet red pep-•pers, roasted, peeled, seeded and diced½ cup homemade •mayonnaise (or Duke’s)1 tsp. Dijon mustard•½ tbsp. smoked sweet •Spanish paprikaPinch of cayenne•½ tsp. kosher salt •
Grate the cheddar by hand to a very traditional shred. No need to pull out the microplane rasp for this one. Add everything else and mix thoroughly
but not so much that you’ve made a paste. This is something you do by hand. Leave those ma-chines in the cupboard!
To Grill: Spread the pi-mento cheese onto a slice of soft white bread, such as a honey white. Place another slice on top of the cheese. Lightly butter the outside of the sandwich, using about ½ tbsp. butter. Heat another ½ tbsp. but-ter in a med. fry pan over med.-high heat. Once the butter is melted, toast until each side of bread is nicely crisp and golden. Once crisp, remove from the pan allow to cool.

ESS Welcomes SmithEmpire State South welcomes Restaurant Eugene and Bacchanalia alum Ryan Smith to the team as executive chef
Ryan Smith developed an interest in cooking
while working in the kitch-ens at Penn State Universi-ty. After deciding to make cooking his career, Smith enrolled at The Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, NY. Ryan received his degree in 2000 and was drawn to Atlanta by a fellow chef, who recognized the emerging national fas-cination with Southern cuisine. Since his arrival in Atlanta, Ryan has worked in some of the city's most prominent restaurants, including Bacchanalia and most recently as Chef de Cuisine for Restaurant
Eugene and Holeman & Finch. While working with a handful of Atlanta's best chefs, Ryan gained great experience and a sincere fondness for the his-tory and traditions of the Southeast.
In October, Empire State South chef/partner, Hugh Acheson named Ryan Smith the Executive Chef of Empire State South. "Ryan is natural chef with refreshing ideas and a great respect for this re-gion and the Atlanta com-munity," says Hugh," I look forward to what he brings to ESS."

Meet Matt ChavisSelf-described "sarcastic yet sincere" Midtown barista Matt Chavis dishes on his favorite things to do in Midtown
Q: What are some of your favorite things to eat in Midtown?
A: Midtown Tavern's pork belly BLT is my favorite sandwich, hands down. If you're craving pizza, you gotta try Baraonda's Capricciosa Pizza. It's just perfection.
Q: What are your favorite "Midtown" things to do?
A: So many things! I love having drinks at Apre Diem just before catching a movie at Midtown Arts Cinema. I love all the great restaurants and bars. I love walking around Piedmont Park. But if you really want to see the heart of Midtown, you've got to talk to the people who've been here for decades --
the business owners and community organizers. Have you met Richard, the owner of the little grocery store on Argonne? He knows everybody! He's been here through thick and thin. He's an example of the longlasting character of Midtown.
Q: Did you go to the recent Midtown Festival of the Arts?
A: I did! It was so much fun. So well planned and entertaining. A festival like this is exactly what Midtown has been missing.
Q: Any Midtown events our readers won't want to miss?
A: I'd have to say the Dali exhibit at the High Museum is a must see.
MFOTAThe first annual Midtown Festival of the Arts was an abso-lute success! If you've got photos you'd like to share, please send them to [email protected].
Festival of the ArtsMidtown's first Festival of the Arts exceeded attendance and vendor expectations
MFOTA president Leslie Johnson, pictured below, is estatic about the suc-cess of this first time event, proudly telling us: "We estimate that more than 20,000 people attended the event, and many of our art vendors and adjacent retailers said they exceed-ed their sales expectations by the close of the festival's first day."
With a culinary stage, two music stages, a kid's area,
amazing food, great arts and crafts and an unpar-alled location on the Mid-town Mile, MFOTA is on the fast track to becoming one of Atlanta's best neigh-borhood festivals. Johnson and the other organizers would like to express their gratitude to the many volunteers who worked tirelessly to make MFOTA a reality. Keep your eye on midtownfestivalofthearts.org for news about next year's event.
