Midsegment of Triangles Investigation In this investigation you will discover some relationships between the midsegment and the sides of a triangle. Go to geogebra.org Select “start creating” Select “geometry” Step 1: Using the polygon tool, create a triangle. Follow the prompts in geogebra. Step 2: Measure side AC: Go to the measure menu. Select distance or length. Select side AC. Step 3: Construct a midpoint on segment AB. Go to the point menu Select midpoint or center Select side AB Step 4: Repeat step 3 for side BC. Step 5: Using the line segment tool, connect the midpoints created in steps 3 and 4. (Should be points D and E) Step 6: Measure segment DE. Go to the measure menu. Select distance or length. Select segment DE. Step 7. Calculate AC/DE. Step 8: Click and drag any vertex of the triangle. Recalculate AC/DE. Q1: What relationship exists between the measures of the midsegment and base in a triangle? Step 9: Using the measure menu - select slope. Select segment AC and then DE.

Midsegment of Triangles Investigation

In this investigation you will discover some relationships between the midsegment and the sides of a triangle.

Go to geogebra.orgSelect “start creating”Select “geometry”

Step 1: Using the polygon tool, create a triangle. Follow the prompts in geogebra. Step 2: Measure side AC:

Go to the measure menu. Select distance or length.

Select side AC. Step 3: Construct a midpoint on segment AB.

Go to the point menuSelect midpoint or centerSelect side AB

Step 4: Repeat step 3 for side BC.Step 5: Using the line segment tool, connect the midpoints created in steps 3 and 4.

Step 10: Click and drag any vertex of the triangle. Notice the slope measurement.

Q2: What is true about the slopes of the midsegment and base in the triangle? What does this mean?
