MidPenn Legal Services Lancaster County Office

2014-2015 Fact Sheet MidPenn is free civil legal aid. We are a legal emergency room for the poor. We provide advice and counsel to help very

low-income families solve problems and get back on track.

Case Types: We handle critical civil matters: custody, domestic violence, housing, elder law, public benefits and consumer.

We do not handle criminal cases.

Mission: MidPenn Legal Services is a non-profit law firm providing free civil legal aid to low-income families in crisis.

Vision: We seek orderly resolutions for poor families with critical legal problems. We protect personal safety, stabilize

housing, secure income, and obtain health care for those with nowhere else to turn.

Poverty in Lancaster County has increased by 51% since 2000.

Despite a serious decrease in funding MidPenn handled many cases.

Funding: The Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network (PLAN) provides 45% of our funding from various sources including,

Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA), state and federal Title XX, filing fee add-ons (AJA), Disability Advocacy

Project (DAP) and Mortgage Foreclosure Settlement funds (HASA). The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) provides 33% of

our funds. Additional support comes from local groups, private foundations, and individuals. We receive funding from the

Lancaster Bar Foundation, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, a Lancaster County Community

Development Block Grant, the Lancaster County Area Agency on Aging, Conestoga View, the United Way of Lancaster

County, the Lancaster County Workforce Investment Board, the Lancaster General Health Foundation and the Lancaster

County Courts.
