Quite a bit of maple syrup has been made. Daughter Sylvia and granddaughter Rosanna and children walked down to watch them making syrup at John and Ida Mae Hershbergers on Monday afternoon. Howdy from West FarmingtonBy Mrs. Rudy Kathryn Detweiler

March 28, 2019 The benefit dinner held at Milo Mullet Jrs in orwell was well attended to help with

widow Milo Mandy Mullet’s expenses.Chemo treatments seem to be helping Miss Kathryn Hostetler. She was able to go to

work 3 days last week but gets very tired. Expenses are not easy for a single girl. Her address is 4525 Clark Road, West Farmington, ohio 44491. A group of us visited her Monday p.m.

Donnie, son of John and Barbara Byler on Parkman Mespo Road was in the hospital over the weekend with seizures. Hopefully, the medication will help him.

Widow John Matt Miller, Widow Urie Sara Miller, Mrs. James Marie Byler, Mrs. Matthew, Rebecca Byler, Mrs. Robbie Cindy Burkholder, and I visited John Barbara Tuesday. There was also a load from Guernsey County including their daughter, Mrs. Lester Yoder Marcia, Mrs. Jonathan Rosie Byler, our daughter John Ruth and Stephen Swartz Miriam.

We missed Bull Stutzman (who died in January) when the gang came here Tuesday afternoon. There were Marvin and Sara Jane Detweiler, Urie Jr. and Susan Byler, Andy and Laurie Hostetler, Nelson and Barbara Miller, and David and Missy Miller Jr. Bill used to come along, too.

Today Rudy and I went to Pittsburg to see Doctor Mears for a check up on my knee replacement. Guess I’ll need to have patience yet a while. The ugly scab on top of my knee might take 1 more month to heal and can take 3 months until the numbness and swelling goes away. I do get out of the house but need to keep my leg propped up a lot.

Widow Andy Yoder Ada enjoys company and her two daughters from Cub Run, Kentucky Daniel Weaver Sue and Robert Mullet Linda, were there Tuesday to Friday. While they were here, they got the sad news that their friend Sam Gingerich Emma passed away in Kentucky.

Coffee Break with Sue

By Susan Yoder

March 29, 2019: A Friendly Hi to Y’all!Spring has sprung! We rejoice! No early

garden here yet, hopefully soon,Barb Raber is feeling better after being

in the hospital a few days … of course, it was right when Mom Emma went to Florida. All’s well that ends well.

(Erwin) Marcia Kuhns is down there (Florida) at the present along with some others who went to that wellness center down there. Hopefully, it will be warm here upon their return.

our visiting group was at (Don J.P.) Martha/Al Miller home recently. Impressive at age 93, Martha stays busy working on carpet rags, tearing/sewing. She is blessed with a healthy body and sound mind.

Henry and Ellen Gingerich have recently moved from Swine Creek Road over to Georgia Road across from our sons Joey and Martha Kay and Aaron and Rachel. Ellen’s sister Dorothy and Bill Gingerich are in the process of building a new home just west of the farm they sold across from Chipmunk Lane also on Georgia. Changes everywhere.

We have been trying to eat more fruits and vegetables around here. Norm recently had a doctor appointment and I mentioned that he should stop somewhere and get some fruit. Well, he bought apples, pineapple, four kinds of berries, bananas, grapes, avocados, and kiwi! I’m not that “big” on fruit. And have to make an extra effort to eat it.

I know it’s healthier and one feels better if you put an effort in what you eat. I don’t think God intended for us to eat all that processed food and fast food … not all the time, anyway. Now to practice what I preached! (Smile!)

Till next time … Remember, coffee makes all things possible!

March 31, 2019: Greetings in the Lord’s Name.

The wind whistles around my house as the snow flies, but that sounds better than the robin pecking at my windows.

The cardinal is visiting my refilled feeder and I can watch him as I write.

I took some R & R south, and so my diary is not kept up right now.

We heard cousin Neil H. in New York has not recovered his speech from a stroke. Some of the relatives want to visit him this week, Lord willing. So, I can put in 2 extra days by Jacie in Mary’s place.

Saturday, I was at nephew’s house and then in the evening, some more of the family came to eat Chinese and see the cute pony colt. It is a beautiful gray paint and is growing fast. I forgot to ask how many lambs they have by now, and we know spring is near and it’s lambing season.

The three aunts, sister, Gertrude, and I had birthday lunch with aunt Elmina on Saturday. My, she is frail at 85 pounds with heart issues. Gert then stayed here for the night. After all, we hadn’t played marbles together for weeks.

Thank you, secret friend, for the card and gift sent through the mail. Very nice!

God’s Blessings To All!

The Geauga Local Home and Garden Show was the best ever this past March 29 and 30. More than 70 vendors greeted more than 2,000 people and are already looking forward to next year. These companies showed a diverse product and service offering, and brought together, in one place, all the information needed to improve your home, inside and out. Many held special drawings and gave out great stuff!Again this year, the show was hosted by Pine Craft Storage Barns, and held at the Heritage Marketplace, 15848 Nauvoo Road, just north of Middlefield Village. Pine Craft Storage Buildings raffled off a full-size, eight-by-10-foot, premium storage building and Paul Miller was the winner. Dorothy Hershberger and Stephan Yoder took home door prizes. Pine Craft Storage Barns is located at 15920 Nauvoo Road in Middlefield (44062). Call 440-632-0174.

Greetings from GarrettsvilleBy Rachel Miller

March 25, 2019: I just got done with my laundry now, at 3:30 p.m. It’s blowing and I hope it will still dry. We were to town this forenoon. This morning, it looked like rain, so I didn’t do my laundry then. It did sprinkle some, and it still looks like it could rain … then the sun almost comes out.

I’m browning some pork chops to cook for supper. We’ll have salad and Penny Savers. The blue birds are checking out the bluebird houses and so are the sparrows (Grrrr). I

think the bluebirds started a nest in one of them.our thoughts are often with Mrs. Ervin Troyer (Ada). She’s Ivan’s sister and was in the

hospital about 2 weeks with fluid around her heart and pneumonia real bad. one lung collapsed and the other is damaged. She was on life support until Monday at 6 p.m. when they took her off. So now, last night they took her home to take care of her with hospice help. Her vitals haven’t dropped too much. We had been up to see her Friday forenoon. She was on a chair taking a breathing treatment and she could still talk some. They were talking about putting her in step-down. Saturday, she got worse, or maybe it was Friday night, and they put her on life support.

Ivan is out splitting wood. Yesterday, he was sick in the afternoon with stomach flu with stomach ache, dizziness and weakness.

We saw the deer again in the field next to us Saturday. Seven of them headed to go across the road and then Barbara started the motor in the basement and the deer turned and went for the woods.

A week ago Wednesday I was to Atlantic, Pennsylvania with my sisters Mrs. Mose Clara Miller and Mrs. Albert (Sarah) Detweiler and also brother Ervin’s wife Linda, Mel Anna Mary’s daughters Marie and Mrs. Willis Byler. Willises have a small greenhouse and she brought some tumbling cherry tomato plants along. I got a yellow one and a red one and put them in my hanging baskets.

I got some of my seed order and am now anxious to get some early stuff out.Barbara was home Tuesday p.m. and worked outside. Yesterday she came home at 1

p.m. and we were working outside. I trimmed the roses and raked corners that had leaves. We did the rock garden and picked up twigs. So much to rake, seeing as we had it all clean in the fall.

March 28. 2019: What beautiful weather we’ve had this week! Awesome sunrises from my kitchen window. Surely spring is on its way.

We’ve had some really good freezing and thawing for the syrup makers, so it’s been a good year. John and Mary Slabaugh and we visited the Gingerich Family Sugarhouse last Saturday afternoon. We treated the men to pizza and ice cream. In return, we received some yummy maple syrup. Thanks, Guys! (If you saw a wagon load of oldies going down Georgia Road that reminded you of the Beverly Hillbillies, that was us! (Smile!)

owen and Ellen Miller have a son, their third, born Friday named Michael. He also has one sister. By Saturday, they found out he has cardiomyopathy. Their first born, Matthew, also had it and lived less than 3 months. Grands are Mrs. Erwin Jr, (Ida) Gingerich, and Lee and Ada Miller. our hearts go out to them all; may God be with them.

A 50th birthday surprise was held at Steven and Twila Millers for Marty Mast. It was planned by his wife, Sara Jane (our daughter) and included our combined families, close to 30 people. We were served a delicious steak dinner with all the trimmings. Marty also received 50 gifts.

Saturday is the farm disposal sale here at neighbor Bill and Dorothy Gingerich. This will be different for them, always having been farmers. We hope the weather stays nice for it.

John Slabaugh Jr. 44, has been having problems. He passed out a few times. This week the doctor told him he needs open heart surgery to scrape his heart muscle as it is too thick. He’s waiting to be scheduled. Jake’s two nephews had this same procedure and feel better. We trust John will feel better, too.

Katherine’s KornerBy Katherine Byler

“You never realize what a poor loser you are until you start dieting.”

on the news … it said with the cold weather we’re having, we’re going to have days in May and June in the 20s! (March 5 news)

Needed … recipe for date mixture on crackers, baked 10 minutes, topped with cream cheese frosting, and EAT! Yum! Lost the recipe in our fire (May 7, soon to be four years ago).

Yes, I was fortunate enough to be included on a wonderful outing to John S. Mary’s. Usually if you can’t say something good about something, you say nothing. That was NoT the case this time. Ray Mast and all four girls, Jake and Linda Weaver and John and Barb Mast helped make the day complete.

We visited Joe’s brother Harvey at the Cleveland Clinic where he had a heart valve replaced. Now we want to visit them again since he is home. Hubby, now that he’s 75, is quite content at home!

An evening was spent so enjoyably at the Steve and Twila Miller home for a ribs and chicken dinner to celebrate the 70th birthdays of my twin brothers, Sam and Dan. A very enjoyable though short visit with Crist and Maryalice Miller next door was included as well. Brother David turned 64 the same day, but he has to wait 6 years to be treated so grandly. The nieces have orders to do it if not enough siblings are left anymore!

once again, I’ve been asked to write about the dangers of walkers and riders on the roadsides after dark with no lights or vests. (It probably won’t do any good!) It’s bad enough in the daytime but wish they could better picture two cars or vehicles trying to pass each other traveling opposite ways while trying to avoid the scooters. And … no lights in the rear also does not make

sense; ask any driver. Thanks for listening.Joe and I were caught in a terrific

rainstorm on the eve of the 72-degree day we had recently. We walked to Route 534 to Susie Detweiler’s who lost her father, Dan, carrying our coats. on the way home. It was a different story. Borrowed umbrellas helped immensely, but it was hard to keep them from turning inside out! After about 1 /2 mile of this, we got a ride with Mary Sue Landis, who was taking “End of the Commons” workers home! Whew! Twas very much appreciated. Found out later that the Reuben and Andy Detweilers, returning from grocery shopping had spotted us and were going to give us a lift. By the time they came up our road, we were gone! Thanks, anyway!

We had a delicious pancake breakfast at the Milo Mullet Jr. home on Penniman Road. Glad we had a way to go.

oh yes, we were the only ones at Susie Ds that evening. Lester and Rachel Y. wanted to join us, but that’s when the boys wanted to try out their new pony. Matthew, 15, got thrown from the wagon, receiving a gash on his knee. He was taken to the emergency room for stitches.

We were at Allen Ray and Elizabeth Millers one evening to see our latest great-grandbaby, Lucas, born Feb. 28. He’s a cutie.

Daughter Elizabeth and Wayne C. B. were here one evening (from Carroll County … something to cheer about). They were at his folks (Poleys) for brunch and also stopped at Joe and Emma Weavers for a short visit.

About that news item mentioned earlier, the 20s in May and June was talking about dates, not temperatures!

Mom’s DiaryBy Barbara Ann Detweiler

Saturday, March 2: The girls finished up all the cleaning and organizing and Rose Edna helped me prepare the food for tomorrow.

Sunday, March 3: We had a good day with church being here, and then we invited the neighbors back for supper.

Monday, March 4: Cleaning again! This time from the church mess. Betty did the upstairs and downstairs while I did what I could on the first level.

Tuesday, March 5: What a good feeling that everything’s clean and no deadlines are looming ahead. Very relaxing. Wayne’s Uncle Dan Detweiler died.

Wednesday, March 6: I felt rather ouchy today, so I took it easy all day.

Thursday, March 7: Wayne and I drove down to the viewing of his Uncle Dan Detweiler.

Friday, March 8: Wayne went to the funeral. John, Betty and little Karin came tonight. They are staying for the night. of course, we had to smother Karin with love!

Saturday, March 9: We butchered two pigs today. Warne and John spent most of the day working on that and then we ladies mixed the sausage and made lunch.

Sunday, March 10: Time change! I don’t like it. Maybe I’ll get used to it after a while. We had a good breakfast with fresh pork. We then went down to Wayne’s parents for the evening.

Monday, March 11: I baked a couple kinds of bars to serve to friends who came tonight. Laura and Andrew finally came home after spending 2 weeks in Florida. Betty enjoyed their being gone because she had less laundry to do!

Tuesday, March 12: Grocery day! Always a tiring day. I’m glad Betty can go along to help me.

Wednesday, March 13: The church men came to practice singing tonight. I made doughnuts with Laura’s help.

Thursday, March 14: Wayne’s Dad is in the hospital again.

Friday. March 15: We went up to see Dad Detweiler tonight. They’re giving him a few units of blood.

Saturday, March 16: We went to the

library this afternoon and stocked up on books. They’ll probably be read in a week. We are all bookworms.

Sunday, March 17: John’s 25th birthday. We went to church at neighbor Allens, and then went back for supper.

Monday, March 18: Norma has her study sheets to study for the eighth grade achievement tests. I try to ask her history and geography questions every evening.

Tuesday, March 19: Laura and Betty both substitute taught at school today. So, three of my girls were teaching together. They enjoyed it very much.

Wednesday, March 20: Just had the usual duties at home today and then rested. My feet are bothering me a lot.

Thursday, March 21: We all went to John and Bettys house for both of their birthdays. We took ice cream and cake and other goodies. Then, of course, we doted on Karin.

Friday, March 22: Betty did the weekly cleaning and I helped along.

Saturday, March 23: The girls did the daily dozens and then Rose and Norma worked on a puzzle they’re putting together.

Sunday, March 24: Went to my parents.

Monday, March 25: The same daily routine. We’re ready for some nice days to clean up outdoors.

Tuesday, March 26: Betty and I went to a few stores in the area.

Wednesday, Mach 27: My feet feel pretty horrible this week. Every step hurts. Sometimes it’s hard to understand why it has to be this way. But then, I try and think of people who have worse than I do.

Thursday, March 28: I finished up the grocery shopping today. Betty took care of two little girls, ages 1 and 2. She enjoys it.

Friday, March 29: Rainy and dreary. The school children had to go to school with just one thing different on themselves. Katherine wore a Lancaster, Pa. style cap and Norma wore a dress made with different colors - some parts were blue and some parts were green and gray. It looked hilarious.

Hello from HuntsburgBy William Bender

March 29, 2019: Here we are in the last part of March. Last week was a good sap week. The boys stayed with their 800 taps. By the time they get home from work, there will be some sap out there. I like to go back in the sugarhouse when they are boiling.

Saturday was the big sale on the McNish Farm. Huntsburg lost another nice farm. The first one that I remember running that farm was Mose Burkholder. John Gingerich was a hired man. I went with my father one day; I do not know what we wanted, but I do remember John that day … a skinny long guy. He was a single guy at that time. Then my uncle A. R. Byler moved in from Delaware and ran the farm for 1 year. Then he moved back to Delaware and Dan Wengerd moved in. While he lived there is when I started going with the thrashers. The farms were the McNish Farm, old Joe Yoder, Sam Kauffman, Adam Byler, Eli Byler, Mose Burkholder, my Dad and Crist Slabaugh. Then Dan Byler moved on the farm. I am not sure what year Simon Yoder moved on … maybe 61 or 62. By that time, Dad sold our little farm to sister Agnes, the Joe Schmuckers. Today, not one of these farms has a dairy cow. The Yoders have been running this farm ever since. It was the only farm that they did not sell lots off … until now. Wonder how many houses are going to be built on this farm. What would old Howard say?

Huntsburg made a big change since my school days. Dan J. B. Miller bought Uncle Dan’s farm, I’m not sure what year. Crist

Slabaugh lived there. Then when he moved off, Dan J. B. Miller moved on (Miriam Dan).

Yes, spring is just around the corner. The robins are here and the bluebirds and fast time. It is here, so we will use it.

Time to get this out of the way. Just came home from Middlefield. See Dan’s boys have the team out to go gather sap. Dan was in the sugarhouse at 3 a.m. They went over the 100 gallon mark this forenoon. We still have not had the real warm weather that I like in sugaring. It will come sooner or later. The older I get the less I like winter. (Winter is not bad; it is the ice and snow and cold that I do not like.)

Page 8: Middlef ield POSTApril 10, 2019 POST lus air April 10, 2019 Middlef ield Hello from Amish Crossing Corner By Sarah Miller March 28, 2019: Thursday evening after a beautiful day and

Dear friend,

Before I tell you why I use the blocks, I have to give some background

first. While attending college in New Hampshire, I got hurt playing football. I developed “sciatica”. A painful condition where my lower back hurt all the time, but pain also shot down my left leg to my foot! I tried rest, I tried stretches, I tried pain medication and nothing helped.

Actually the pain got worse and I developed what is called “foot drop”. The medical staff for the football team ordered a MRI, which showed a ruptured disc in my back. I had surgery on my lower back. But I still had pain! Not as intense, but still in my lower back and leg.

A friend recommended I see his chiropractor. I said, “A Chiropractor, are you crazy?” I thought I’m 18 years old and can hardly put on my own shoes, even after surgery. So I went to the chiropractor.

The chiropractor did some tests, an showed me that even though the surgeon did a good job, my spine was still out of alignment and causing my pain and it might even cause my disc to rupture again!

So I tried chiropractic and getting adjusted. Treatment didn’t hurt, as a matter of fact I felt some relief after the first adjustment. After a series of care, I could put on my shoes with no problem. Treatment helped so much, I became a chiropractor myself.

As for the Blocks. The blocks represent the spine, the building blocks of health, when the “blocks” of alignment, they can topple over. While at chiropractic college, I learned that the spine (blocks) protect the spinal cord (this is like the tail of the brain) and provide exits for the nerves that come off the spinal cord. Any misalignment of the spine, may irritate the nerves, muscles and joints of the spine, resulting in pain and symptoms.

My wife Sharon, suffered many years with headaches. She took ibuprofen for years, but the headaches kept returning. After receiving adjustments on her neck, the headaches rarely occur at all.

Ty, my little athlete, gets adjusted to stay as healthy as possible to play all his sports.

It’s strange how life is, because now people come to see me with their lower back and sciatic problems. Also they come to me with their headaches, migraines, chronic pain, neck pain, shoulder/arm pain, whiplash from car accidents, backaches,

ear infections, asthma, allergies, numbness in limbs, athletic injuries, just to name a few.

What sets me apart… in the chiropractic field is my use of the Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique (AMCT); a treatment system that utilizes a small handheld instrument that applies a quick, low-force, gentle chiropractic treatment directly to the source of your pain to alleviate nerve pressure and allow the body

to heal itself!

Here’s what some of my patients had to say:

“Dr. R is amazing! I had never seen a chiropractor before, and I realized I waited too long. I had not been walking correctly for years, now after alignments, I’m doing so much better! The staff is very efficient and friendly and all work together well. Great vibes, great care, great people! Thank you for helping me!”– Julia W.

“For some time I’ve had extreme pain in my right knee and shoulder and suffered from plantar facitis. I’ve tried every pain relieving lotion, cream and balm, but it wasn’t enough.

After beginning treatment with Dr. Roediger, I noticed small amounts of relief right away and steady

improvement as I continue care. My family and friends have even

noticed a change in me!” – Mark H.- Thompson.

“Absolutely recommend Dr. Roediger! His office and staff are fun and pleasant to be around with a comfortable environment and atmosphere. And his genuine care

to help people is the reason I will continue to receive treatments for my neck and keep my migraines away! You guys

rock!!!” – Nathan F.
