February 14, 2013 Dear NBA Members and Guests: I am pleased to welcome you to the National Bar Association’s 2013 Mid-Winter Meeting. Through the collaboration of our Judicial Council, Young Lawyers and Small Firms/Solo Practitioners’ Divisions as well as the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, this year’s conference will prove to be exceptional and unmatched in the diverse continuing legal education (CLE) seminars and networking opportunities that you will be able to take advantage of as a conference attendee. As a conference attendee you have the opportunity to participate in stellar programming presented by industry experts who will discuss various ways to enhance your practice areas, converse on hot legal issues, and provide unique professional development opportunities. In addition to CLE courses, you will have the opportunity to make a difference through various service outreach projects within Bahamian communities and schools. The A. Leon Higginbotham Luncheon will also be an opportunity to honor the legacy of history makers within the profession as well as honor those who uphold the values of the NBA. I hope that you are able to enjoy this year's mid-winter meeting as you network and engage with some of the nation's top judges and legal professionals. Thank you to the Mid-Winter Meeting Planning Committee and the NBA staff for your hard work in making this meeting a success. Sincerely,

John E. Page President

88TH ANNUAL CONVENTION July 27 –August 1, 2013 Miami, FL A Legacy of Service. A Promise of Justice.

February 14, 2013 Greetings and welcome to the Bahamas! As Chair of the National Bar Association’s (NBA) Labor and Employment Law Section, I am excited to welcome you to the NBA’s Mid-Winter Meeting. I am so happy that this year we have continued the collaboration with the Judicial Council, Young Lawyers and Small Firms/Solo Practitioners Divisions to ensure a conference filled with continuing legal education (CLE) opportunities presented by legal experts from across the U.S. and abroad. I have had the distinct pleasure of working with several dedicated lawyers and judges in planning CLE seminars designed to help develop practical skills to foster successful client representation and career development. I am particularly delighted to offer Risky Business: Fundamental Employment Law Issues for the Smaller Employer, which will provide attendees with a chance to learn about the pitfalls that challenge most employers but particularly those without a robust human resources team and in-house legal department. I am hopeful that you will take advantage of the meaningful relationship building opportunities with federal and state judges as well as attorneys representing diverse practice areas. Given the diverse attendees, there will be value at every corner of this conference -- from the classroom to the beach! Enjoy!

Sincerely, Aja Diamond Moore Aja Diamond Moore

February 14, 2013 Greetings Young Lawyers, Members and Friends of the National Bar Association! As Chair of the Young Lawyers' Division, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the National Bar Association's Mid-Winter Meeting and YLD's Annual Retreat! For the second consecutive year, the YLD has joined forces with the Judicial Council, Small Firms Solo Practitioners' Division and Labor and Employment Section of the NBA to bring you what I believe will be our best collaboration yet! As Chair of the Young Lawyers' Division, I am committed to creating opportunities for young lawyers to build productive, professional relationships and enhance skill sets necessary to excel in this profession. With the support of the most dedicated board of directors there is (aka "the Dream Team!"), the YLD has planned a remarkable series of events during this Retreat designed to do just that! On Friday, February 15, 2013, the YLD will come together to present the culmination of its Mid-Winter Community Service Project by working with students for two hours at the St. Cecilia Catholic Primary School here in Nassau, Bahamas to build literacy skills. We hope you join us in this effort to give back while strengthening relationships with each other. Saturday, the YLD will present “Media and the Law: How to Master Media Relations and Win Your Case,” and “Brand New Year, Brand New You,” a seminar designed to teach young lawyers how to develop a "brand" with practical tips and establish his legal reputation in the community; we will end the day with a Retreat-style meeting complete with team-building and networking activities. Plus, there's no better place to expand your professional network right now than Nassau, Bahamas! I hope you explore the island, shop, enjoy the beautiful beaches and discover the wonderful Bahamian Culture during your stay. By attending this Conference, you are uniquely positioned to build relationships within the Bar and Bench that can last a lifetime, and help further your professional and personal goals. During these next few days, I encourage you to mix, mingle and meet at least ten new colleagues, and commit to building relationships with each person over the next few months...and watch your world open up with possibility. We have made it our business to do everything possible to help young lawyers succeed. With your continued support, there's no limit to what we can achieve, together. Enjoy the Mid-Winter Conference and YLD Retreat! The best is yet to come! All my best,

Michelle C. Thomas
