1. PURPOSE OF POSITIONThe Aquatics Manager plays an integral part in achieving this outcome by delivering aquatic services which exceed customer expectations and provide a quality leisure experience.

Specifically the Aquatics Manager will:

Provide facility users with a clean, enjoyable and safe aquatic environment including the application of Recreation New Zealand’s Pool Safe best practice

Encourage usage through promotion of the facility and high standards of customer service.

Lead the Lifeguard Team in meeting customer needs promptly and courteously in terms of information, service, access and support.

Ensure lifeguards are trained, qualified and able to deliver services to national standards.

2. POSITION DIMENSIONSTotal number of employees under your control: 3 to 5 Full time Equivalent Staff, including Lifeguards,

Coaching Staff. A number of staff roles are part-time or on job share meaning up to 12 or more staff may be employed.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Tararua Aquatic Community Trust - Job Description – Aquatics Manager

Operating budget: Oversee staff rosters and payroll authorization. Delegation will be provided for normal operational expenditure.

Capital budget: To be considered by the Trust

Comments of any changes likely within 12 months: The operation of the pool facility will be reviewed over the next 12 months including appropriate levels of delegation.

3. MAJOR ACTIVITIES

Key technical tasks Objective Means

Promote excellent frontline customer service.

Direct and show leadership in the delivery of excellent frontline customer service within resources available.

Have a detailed knowledge of all services provided through the pool in order to:

Convey accurate information to staff and customers

Promote the pool and its services to prospective customers and cater to the needs of existing customers.

Lead staff in the delivery of best customer service within resources available.

To interact with customers and relay feedback to the Facility Manager, on how best to cater to customer needs.

To respond to enquires from the community, ensuring all are dealt with promptly in a fair and friendly manner.

To provide a well maintained environment.

The facility is clean and ready for customers at all times.

Operation of the preventative maintenance programme.

Attend to reactive repairs and maintenance as required.

To ensure that the pool water quality meets NZ standard 5826.

Carry out regular inspections of plant, equipment and the working environment and keep maintenance sheets up to date.

Lead the pool lifeguard team.

Provide leadership to the lifeguard team motivatingstaff to excel in the delivery of services.

Take responsibility for poolside and office supervision.

To prepare rosters for poolside staff.

Ensure the Pool Operating Procedure/Pool Safe Manual is followed by you and other facility staff.

Effectively delegate responsibilities to lifeguard staff.

Effectively communicate to staff the tasks to be completed and their part in achieving them.

Oversee the day to day running of the pool.

Ensure effective communication of Council policies and activities throughout the pool.

To provide performance management for all pool lifeguards

To complete 6 monthly and annual performance assessments of all pool lifeguards

To identify skill gaps within staff and facilitate and organise training.

To facilitate professional development opportunities for Pool Lifeguards.

Provide on-job training for staff as required.

Ensure that first aid and life saving qualifications are up to date and practiced.

To provide a safe environment.

When on duty provide a safe environment within resources available.

Comply with the Pool Safe and Council policies regarding the management of hazards.

Follow Pool Operating Procedure/Pool Safe Manual covering the day to day lifeguard supervision and customer service provided by the pool.

Lifeguard the swimming pool in accordance with Pool Operating Procedure/Pool Safe Manual.

When necessary facilitate the delivery of the Emergency Action Plan detailing pool procedures in every foreseeable emergency.

To help develop a Strategic Plan for the facility that links to the Council Reserves and Recreation Strategy

Implement Pool Safe Policies and Procedures

Be compliant with national standards of best practice for swimming pools

To be an accredited pool safe siteTo meet key compliance requirements of the Annual Pool Safe Audit.

Targeted promotion of pools activities.

To assist with pool promotion as necessary.

Ensure that all information given to customers regarding services offered by the pool is both current and accurate.

Liaise with all structured user groups to maximise our level of service and encourage participation.

Budget Management To assist the Facility Manager to maintain costs within budget

Maintain rosters for pool staff which are within the budget provisions set for the facility.

Monitor expenditure on Chemicals, Cleaning products and training to ensure best use of resources is maintained.

Ensure that the Shop is well managed.

To ensure internal controls over financial transactions are maintained.

Inform management promptly if there are foreseen issues or changes which may affect the delivery of services within budget.

Support the pool office. When on duty ensure the pool office operates efficiently.

To ensure the procedures and standards relating to operation of the pool office contained with in the Pool Operating Procedure/Pool Safe Manual are carried out to the required standard

Ensure a safe working environment is maintained.

To ensure compliance with the Health and Safety in Employment Act, ensuringThe Trust is not exposed to unnecessary risks or costs associated with non- compliance.

Identify and report Health & Safety hazards to the Chairperson, and recommend actions in order to eliminate, isolate or minimise them.

Utilise operational safety procedures consistent with the Health and Safety in Employment Act, and comply with safe operating practices.

Maintain a safe working area, ensuring customers and visitors are not exposed to unnecessary risks.

Meet policies and legislative obligations

To ensure any statutory obligations are discharged in accordance with the correct procedure and to minimise the risk to council of non-compliance.

Carry out any other duties that may be assigned by The Trust.

Uphold the principle of Equal Employment Opportunities as well as "the good employer" principle.

Have a clear understanding of your responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

Participate in corporate emergency and civil defence planning, training and operations under the direction of the Emergency Management Controller.

Reporting and ManagementObligations
