Document Management• Document Sets – Provides users the ability of managing a group of documents

as a single item within a library. • Enterprise Content Types – Content types which are published from a central

Site Content Type gallery (the Content Type Hub) to other content type galleries; allowing content types to remain consistent across the enterprise

• Document IDs – A unique, Site Collection level ID which follows the document (or Document Set) and provides a single URL for referencing the document; regardless of location.

• Content Organizer –Replacing the Records Center routing rules and now available to all document libraries, the Content Organizer enables basic management as well as the automatic routing of documents to different libraries and folders within those libraries.

• Maximum Item Count – Folders within a Document Library can now hold up to 5000 items. The maximum number of items in any list (including a Document Library) is 50,000,000.

for customers to use as a single “get data” type of account. • Trusted Locations – Trusted locations are now provided by default.• Multi-user Collaboration – Multi-user collaborative environment provides

multiple users with the ability to edit any workbook simultaneously. • Delegate Services Permissions – SharePoint Server contains a new shared

service infrastructure that allows the central administrator to delegate permissions to manage other services to users.

• Slicer feature – Filter which allows for the use of OLAP functions and Pivot Tables, and the creation of interactive reports within a SharePoint environment.

allowing access to the new data source types.

Page 14: Microsoft Share Point 2010 Highlights

Business Data Catalog, cont.• Batch and Multiple Item Support – Read multiple items in a single pass;

reducing round trips to the backend system(s).• Symmetrical Server and Client Runtime – In addition to server

connectivity, BCS now allows Microsoft Office client applications to connect directly to external data sources.

• Read Blobs – BCS now supports reading binary large object (BLOB) data. This is useful for streaming BLOBs of data from the external system.

• Read and Write-Back of Complex Types – BCS supports dot notation in field names enabling reading and writing complex types.

• Lifecycle Management – BCS provides a set of tools to facilitate creation of models and Office 2010 application artifacts, declaratively and by writing code.

• Extensibility – Developers can use the BDC Runtime object model to write generic applications by using the stereotyped APIs as building blocks
