We strongly ask you to insure your travel. The organizing committee will have no responsibility for illness, injure and so on.

SCOPE

Japan and China have successfully organized the Microgravity Workshops for 7 times in the recent past. The primary focus of these conferences has been the development in the progress of space utilization in several areas related to science and technology. Apart from these objectives, the successful organization of the conferences has contributed immensely to the mutual friendship of these two countries. To further enhance the participation of other countries and increase the scope of the conference, the Korean microgravity community was welcomed in the year 2009. Since 2006, Japanese community has independently been collaborating with scientists from Thailand, Malaysia in the utilization of aircrafts for short-duration microgravity experiments. The Japanese community is also preparing experiments using Indian satellite systems.

Considering these activities in the past, it is high point that the Japan-China joint Microgravity Workshop should become a global society to attract more international scientists by reorganizing the system of the workshop. In this direction, as the first step, this workshop will add the the name of Korea and

Ver.1.00

would be named as 8th "Japan-China-Korea" Microgravity workshop. Secondly, we need to welcome more scientists from other counties and from other fields by up scaling this workshop to Asian symposium in a near future.

The workshop will be held at hotel “Sakan” which is one of the most famous hot spring areas “Akiu” in Miyagi prefecture, Japan. The workshop is scheduled to start from September 22, 2010. The primary focus of the workshop involves the following research fields (but not restricted to): Fluid Science, Materials Science, Fundamental Physics and Chemistry, Combustion, Life Science, Experimental Facilities, Space Exploration, and Space Science. Educational program utilizing space conditions is also stressed (see International Mohri Poster Session).

Also for International Mohri Poster Session

We encourage young scientists and students to present their posters during the workshop. Experimental chances of parabolic flights and drop experiments for microgravity experiments, as well as Mohri Special Awards, will be awarded for excellent and inspired researches.

Ver.1.00

The focus of this program is to encourage the students to explore the potential applications of microgravity conditions in the field of science and technology. Japan Society of Microgravity has been proudly supporting these poster sessions over the last few years. The name of the session derives from famous astronaut Dr. Mamoru Mohri. In order to reach a wider audience and to facilitate the participation of international students, it has been decided to expand this program to an international level this year onwards. We are happy to welcome the students and young scientists from international universities/schools in this program. Important: Posters from the interested young scientists and students for this program would be reviewed by authorized reviewers during the workshop. Based on the suitability of the proposed experimental plan for microgravity experiments, the contributing students of these posters would be shortlisted by the reviewers and they would be offered to conduct their experiments on parabolic flights using aircrafts or drop facilities. These chances are open not only for Japanese students but also for Asian students. It is to be noted that no experimental fee will be charged from these shortlisted participants. However, the participants are required to bear the travel costs and other associated expenses on their own. Therefore, we sincerely hope that corresponding agencies will help these students financially so that they will able to make use of these precious opportunities in practice. The flight chances and the drop chances will supported by Japanese private companies.

CALL FOR PROCEEDINGS

Both original and review papers presented at the workshop are published through peer review as a special volume of Journal of The Japan Society of Microgravity Application (JASMA). It is strongly suggested that, for mutual understanding in different fields and students who should be widely welcome to the society, tutorial part in the introduction should be well written. This journal has a history of 14 years with an intention of evolving microgravity sciences and technology. This journal also covers life sciences and space-related sciences like space science. This journal is planned to be distributed in the electric form for world-wide distribution. Workshop website provides the latest information.

You are asked to use the Word file “template_for_english_article.doc”, which can be downloaded from http://jck-wms.jp/contents/proceedings.html for preparing your manuscript. In the initial submission, you are asked to convert your Word file to a pdf file, and upload the pdf file to the 8J-C-K Workshop website with your submission form and copyright transfer form, which can be also downloaded. There is no need to upload your Word file in the initial submission. The dead line of submitting your manuscript is the end of the Workshop period (September 22-24, 2010). No extension is allowed. You can also upload your manuscript files at the Workshop site during the conference period. Details are shown on the web, http://jck-wms.jp/contents/proceedings.html.

ACCESS TO SENDAI

About Sendai

Sendai's origins extend back to the period of the first feudal lord, Date Masamune, who established Sendai as his castle town. The Sendai Do main prospered as the

largest in northern Japan, with its official income rating at 620,000 koku. During the Meiji period, numerous national agencies which governed military affairs, judiciary, transportation, communication and academic institutions such as Tohoku Imperial University (currently known as Tohoku University) were based in Sendai. This was a major reason why Sendai developed as the center of politics, economics, and culture of the Tohoku region.

During World War II, downtown Sendai was destroyed

Ver.1.00

by fire, however, Sendai was reconstructed after the war and became the first designated ordinance city in the Tohoku region in 1989, and the population surpassed 1,000,000 in 1999.

About Sendai: http://www.stcb.or.jp/eng/index.html

Airline There are two direct flights operated by ANA from Narita airport to Sendai airport.

Railway You can also take train from Narita airport station (Terminal # 1 and 2) to Tokyo station (~one hour) and then change the train to Tohoku Shin-kansen (super-express train) to Sendai station (100-120min.). Take “Hayate” for almost non-stop access.

ACCESS TO CONFERENCE SITE

Shuttle buses from Sendai Station and hotels to Conference Site, Hotel Sakan will be announced: 30-40 min. from Sendai Station

By Train and Taxi

Take JR Senzan line and stop at Ayashi station (愛子). Take a taxi to Akiu, ~2000Yen. It takes 90 min. in total.

One of Sendai's best advantages is its excellent accessibility. From Tokyo, it takes only 100 minutes by shinkansen (bullet train), and it serves as a gateway to all of Japan by air, rail, highway and ferry. Sendai also offers easy international access. The trip from Narita Airport to Sendai takes around 2 1/2 hours by Narita Express (a shuttle between

Ver.1.00

the airport and Tokyo) and shinkansen. From Kansai International Airport, it takes only a 1 hour and 20 minutes by air. Sendai International Airport also has 6 regular international locations include Taiwan and Beijing, and a 3,000-meter runway is being built so that it can accommodate more flights

from abroad.

HOTELS IN SENDAI:

Suggested trip plan for foreigners:

Accommodations at the conference site, Akiu, would be provided for the nights of 22nd and 23rd September 2010. Therefore, the participants are requested to make reservations in the hotels in Sendai city for the nights of 21st and 24th September on their own. We would be happy to reserve hotels for you on request. You can also book these hotels from the web site. Because of too many participants from abroad, previously suggested hotel: Library Hotel Higashi-Nibancho, will be changed to another hotel , We will soon announce a new hotel for you and book rooms for you upon your request. The request sheet will also be sent by e-mail directly to you. A new Suggested hotel will be announced soon in this web site.

HOTEL SAKAN (CONFERENCE SITE)

Ver.1.00

This hotel is one of the best Japanese Style Hotels in Sendai City. The rooms, meals and services are very wonderful. In principle, a personal stay for onenight in the hotel charges about 300 US dollars. But courtesy of hotel president, they will charge us highly discounted price. Since they have many guests from China on a regular basis, a Chinese staff is always working to take care of Chinese guests.

WELCOME TO HOTEL SAKAN: REMARKS: 1. You have to share rooms with other participants and thus, no single and twin rooms in European style will be prepared in principle. This hotel is based on highly sophisticated Japanese culture and we strongly suggest to follow the Japanese style. Traditionally, the Japanese like to sleep on Tatami floor, but if any participant likes a bed style sleeping, beds could be prepared for the guests making such requests, see photo. However, we strongly recommend you to have experience to sleep in Japanese style for a completely new experience of Japanese tradition. 2. you want to stay in some other hotel rather than Hotel Sakan, there will be If no meals served for these participants in Hotel Sakan. Meals in Hotel Sakan without accommodation in the hotel will cost about 80% of the total staying fee. This difference in the price gives an indication of the exquisite quality of the meals provided at Hotel Sakan.
