Nuson Inc is a spin-off of Industrial Consultants Hoogovens (formerly Nucon) of the Netherlands and the systems division of Ultran Laboratories, USA. It will provide ultrasonic NDT users with a full range of NDT systems and services, and was launched in November 1991.

The largest system Nuson offers is NIPSCAN, which is a series of advanced NDT systems for the evaluation of components with complex geometries. For ultrasonic imaging in light industrial environments and laboratories, the NDC 7000 series systems are available. N DC 5000 series systems are used for flaw detection and properties analysis and are compact enough to fit in a laptop.

Microfocus X-ray so u rces

Specialists in microfocus X-ray sources and real-time systems, X-TEK Systems are launching a number of major products at the MT92 exhibition in Birmingham, UK. Details as small as 5 #m may now be clearly defined in a real-time X-ray image. Products include:

• A newly developed 'UltraFocus' module that produces a true 5 pm spot size, improving image quality. This module can be fitted to the company's 1 60 kV and 225 kV standard microfocus sets.

• A 225 kV microfocus X-ray set. It is believed that this is the highest voltage microfocus source commercially available, and it delivers microfocus quality throughout the 30-225 kV range.

• A novel design of microfocus X-ray system which is very compact and low cost, for use up to 125 kV. A prototype pulsed X-ray source for the food inspection industry. The system may be repetitively pulsed at high power to 'freeze' and record packaged food items on high speed production lines.

Working demonstrations of a mobile real-time radiography system will be given. The unit is

self-contained within a shielded radiation enclosure. This houses a microfocus 160 kV set, five-axis manipulator, X-ray intensifier and TV system. The pin-sharp radiographic image is viewed in real time at up to 200 times magnification on a high

resolution video monitor. Visitors' samples can be inspected on the spot.
