LEATHER WASTE BY CONTINENT (UNIDO 2000)

LEATHER WASTE BY INDUSTRY (UNIDO 2000)

1. POLLUTION

Tanning process is one of the most polluted production technique which was banned by many countries. 2. LEATHER USAGE EFFICIENCY

Low usage efficiency leads to high labor cost and high waste cost. Leather waste is mostly generated at the cutting step, and the cutting scrap rate for leather range from 25 to 60% as:

[1] Leather skin is not homogeneous and rectangular

[2] The quality of the leather at the side of the skin is generally poor

LEATHER WASTE RECYCLINGAccording to UNIDO, leather waste recycling technology includes time-consuming and costly processes.

With MICROFIBER LEATHER SOLUTION, none of these processes and expenses are needed.

• Microfiber leather is a viable solution to improve productivity, reduce costs and ensure environmental-friendliness.

• More important, Microfiber leather is a consistent and sustainable material for long-term production.

Step 1 - Reduction

Step 2 - Re-use

Step 3 - Recycling

DEFINITION Microfiber leather is a synthetic leather where high grade polyurethane resin and ultra fine micro fibers are mixed together to create the microscopic structure of natural leather. The diameter of micro fibers are approximately 1/20th of silk fibers.

Our microfiber has the thickness between 0.01 to 0.001 dtex.

This technology allows the products to have a very similar amino structure as natural leather.

CHARACTERISTICS Well-known characteristics of Microfiber leather are: • Lightweight, soft and smooth hand-feeling • More affordable price than natural leather • Excellent resistance against scratch, tear and

abrasion

• Good breathability • Non-fading • Great tensile strength • Antibacterial, anti-mildew • Odourless • High productivity for manufacturing • More consistent quality than natural leather • More stable quantity than natural leather

• Excellent for homes with small children and pets

MICROFIBER LEATHER VS NATURAL LEATHER

SIDE CUT Looking from the side to observe leather structure. The image above showed that Microfiber leather structure has no significant difference from natural leather. This approves the success of Microfiber leather as an alternative for natural in term of quality.

PROCESSES SUMMARY There are 10 stages of the production:

1. Spinning

2. Non-woven backing

3. Dipping

4. Dissolving

5. Drying and oiling

6. Fulling

7. PU Coating

8. Finish treatment

9. Test

10. Quality checking and packing

MICROFIBER PRODUCTION PROCESS

Page 13: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

DESCRIPTION PE and PA6 are mixed through the extruder. The spinning process begins to develop the fineness size from 0.01 to 0.001 dtex short fiber.

STAGE 1 - SPINNING

Page 14: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

DESCRIPTION The fibers are released and blended. The carding and crosslapper process continues. Finally, it is needled to the non-woven backing.

STAGE 2 - NON-WOVEN BACKING

Page 15: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

DESCRIPTION Through the pressure, the non-woven backing is dipped with the PU to form an organic structure in order to produce the real leather hand feeling.

STAGE 3 - DIPPING

Page 16: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

DESCRIPTION Dissolve the PE with Methylbenzene in order to make it form the superfine fiber.

STAGE 4 - DISSOLVING

Page 17: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

DESCRIPTION Through drying and oiling, the softness and tearing strength is increased.

STAGE 5 - DRYING AND OILING

Page 18: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

DESCRIPTION Improve the physical specifications and hand feeling.

STAGE 6 - FULLING

Page 19: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

DESCRIPTION Through different types of released paper, we then transfer the grain with PU to the base in various colors.

STAGE 7 - PU COATING

Page 20: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

DESCRIPTION At this stage, we improve the gloss and colors of surface.

STAGE 8 - FINISH TREATMENT

Page 21: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

DESCRIPTION Test and report the material physical property.

STAGE 9 - PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS TEST

ADVANTAGES OF MICROFIBER LEATHER

Page 32: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

LIGHTWEIGHT

Microfiber leather is lighter than leather from animal skins. UT.LAB applied Microfiber leather to create its lightest shoes of 130 gram while still ensures its comfortability.

Page 33: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

WATER RESISTANCE

Microfiber leather is a great choice of environmental-friendly material in leather products production due to its great water resistance ability. Microfiber leather can endure any kind of liquid just as good as natural leather.

Page 34: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

TENSILE STRENGTH

Each fiber has a fine thickess of up to 0.001 dtex which can form a powerful structure that offers much greater tensile strength than normal synthetic leather.

Page 35: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

ANTIBACTERIAL - ANTI MILDEW

Natural leather commonly faces the problem of growing mildew in high moisture condition. Microfiber leather is different where it has a complete synthetic structure which is unaffected by bacterias and mildew.

Page 36: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

BREATHABILITY & ODOURLESS

Microfiber leather has very good breathability which lessen sweats and smells for the feet while using it.

Page 37: Microfiber Introduction PDF SLIDE

AFFORDABLE PRICE

For Microfiber leather products, the prices can be controlled with the following factors:

1. Thickness: Different thickness is equivalent to the amount of materials used on the leather.

2. Material type: the surface coating materials are also influential toward the output price.

3. Pattern type: different surface patterns have different process which affect on output price.

4. Features: Depending on customers’ requirement, the products can add special feature such as the environmental standard, fireproofing, extra tensile strength, fiber density, etc.,

5. Quantity: Larger quantity can greatly lower the output cost.

Cow leather Microfiber leather1.Best Quality: Only 13% of the hide - solid close fibred and water resisting, best wearing.

Consistent quality amongst the whole roll of Microfiber leather. All specifications, thickness remain exactly the same.

2. Good Quality: 30% of the hide. It is suitable to produce most of the products.

3. Unstable Quality: 32% of the hide. Loose in fiber. The leather sponges and swells in water.

4. Poor Quality: 25% of the hide. Only good for a part of the shoe that is not exposed.
