How To Use Metric Outside Micrometer & Least Count

Principle:-

Micrometer is based on the principle of Nut bolt. When nut

completes 1 rotation then nut bolt travels distance equal to pitch in

micrometer. Thimble is working as a Nut and Barrel is working as

Bolt.

Parts of Metric Outside Micrometer:-

1. rame:-

rame is made of chromium steel and used to give support. !n the

one end "nvil is fi#ed and on another end there is a hole for the

sliding movement of spindle.

!. "n#il:-

This part is fi#ed at the one end of frame. This part is made of Nickel

$. %pindle:-

This is a sliding part made of Nickel chromium steel. This part have $% equal threads

of 1&' mm(%.$ mm pitch This threading is associated on outer edge of spindle.

.'arrol(%lee#e:-

This part is connected to frame and this part have )etumilne on center which

contains equal '$ parts marking and value of each *art is equal to 1 mm.

This '$ divisions are called as +Big )ivision.+ !n the bottom of datum line small

division marking is there. ,mall divisions makes parts of %.$ mm that means value ofeach small division is %.$ mm.

).T*im+le:-

This is a moving part on Borrol which have taper part. This taper part is known as

Bevel -dge. Bevel edge contains equal $% divisions.

,. atc*et %top:-

To take accurate reading this ratchet stop is used. When spindle edge touches to /ob

it will make the sound cut0cut.
