SHOW RULES

The Michigan Poultry Fanciers (MPF) is a member of the APA & ABA. Our poultry show is sanctioned by these organizations. Birds will be judged by their standards and the show will be governed by the Official APA & ABA Poultry Show Rules.

Health requirements are regulated by the State of Michigan. Exhibitors of all poultry (except waterfowl) must provide a parent flock NPIP certification number, VS9-2, VS9-3, or MDA state pullorum test certificate before bringing birds into the show hall (for the exhibition show, sale area, or showmanship). Exhibitors are highly encouraged to have their birds tested before arriving at the show. Certified testers will be available to test birds at the show during coop-in times only. A $1 per bird donation will be accepted for this service.

All APA classes of poultry will be accepted: Chickens, Ducks, Geese, Turkeys and Guinea Fowl. Entry Fees: $3.00 per exhibitor cleanup fee; $3.50 per bird. Double coops are an extra $3.50 each. All entry fees are non-refundable. Chicken entries must be marked Bantam or Large Fowl; Bearded or Non-Bearded, Single or Rose Comb, etc. Entries (including payment) must be received by the show secretary by Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

Junior show birds will be allowed to coop-out at the conclusion of the Junior show awards at the end of the day on Saturday. Junior exhibitors may also enter birds in the open show by completing a separate open show entry form.

The show will be held in the Birch Run Expo Center In Birch Run, Michigan. The building will be open to accept birds on Friday, October 7th from 4 till 9pm and again Saturday morning from 7 till 9 am. Please…no cooping in before 4pm on Friday.

Leg bands are recommended for all birds entered in the show. Exhibitors are responsible for feeding & watering their own birds. The MPF will provide feed & water. Judges shall not be interrupted while judging. Please give them plenty of room to do their job. The judges have the option not to award 1st Place to a bird not worthy of the placement. All classes will be judged at least through 5th place. The MPF will not be responsible for distributing awards offered by others. Your participation constitutes your agreement to our rules and to hold harmless the Michigan Poultry Fanciers (and/or its members) and the Birch Run Expo Center from any and all claims and losses related to this event. Dedicated to the Introduction and Promotion of the American Serama

Goal of the ASA

The goal of the American Serama Association (ASA) is to promote the American Serama in accordance with a “standard of perfection” and to encourage its development to gain both American Bantam Association (ABA) and American Poultry Association (APA)

acceptance, and improvement in all of its varieties and colors, through breeding, exhibition, and the sharing of information. With this goal in mind, a group of the top Serama breeders and exhibitors in the United States, each with years of experience in breeding and

showing Serama, founded the American Serama Association in 2012. The ASA offers many opportunities for its members to become involved and also provides exhibition sanctioning, local and state club

sanctioning, table top judging license certification, and yearly awards.

Member Benefits By joining the ASA, you gain access to the best of the best, including the top Serama breeders, exhibitioners, judges, and other Serama

enthusiasts with years of experience in showing, breeding, and raising Serama for exhibition and fun. ASA offers a friendly and easy to use forum for access to educational materials and posting of questions related to the breed, in

addition to the latest news in showing across the country. Information on Serama health, genetics, color projects, feeding, disease prevention, standards, breeding, incubating and hatching can be found. State and district representatives are available in all areas of

the United States to discuss any topic concerning the Serama.

The ASA forum offers a special youth section in addition to a youth committee that is dedicated to assisting, planning, and promoting activities and awards for ASA youth. Experienced ASA youth are available on the forum to discuss activities and respond to questions

regarding Serama breeding and showing.

Whether you are showing, breeding, or enjoying Serama as pets, the ASA has something to offer those of every age.

Youth Showmanship Competition

The showmanship competition is open to all youth 18 and under, and sanctioned by the APA-ABA Youth Club. We encourage all youth to participate in Showmanship, including those who are involved in 4H and FFA. Go to the APA-ABA Youth Program website for general information about Showmanship. Contestants are judged on poultry knowledge, handling skills, appearance of the bird and attitude and appearance of the show person. Youth Director Carol Straight is in charge of Showmanship Competition.

The Michigan Poultry Fanciers is offering awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each level of competition. Categories are Novice (7 and under), Junior (8 – 10), Intermediate (11 – 13) and Senior (14 – 18). Ages listed are the usual ages for each category, however, the Youth Director reserves the right to assign competitor categories at her discretion, in an attempt to balance class sizes.

There is a $3 Showmanship fee.

Please pre-register by filling out the Entry Form, checking the showmanship box and entering your age. You do not have to be a show exhibitor to compete in Showmanship. If you do not want your bird judged in its cage,

please do not list the bird on the Entry Form. "Showmanship-only" birds will be provided cages near the Showmanship competition.

It is strongly recommended that birds that ARE entered for show exhibition not be used for Showmanship. The bird will not be judged (in the exhibition show) if it is absent from its assigned exhibition cage when the exhibition show judge arrives to judge the variety.

MPF will provide feed and water - participants must care for their own birds. Please note the health requirements listed in the show rules.

Special Club Meets

More information on the individual meets is available upon request. For information about having Michigan Poultry Fanciers host your breed club’s National Meet, contact club president Kim Aldrich.
