N YN Y Y Iran Nuclear Deal: The House opposed, 162-269, a deal to dismantle Iran’s nuclear-armsprogram for at least 10-to-15 years whilegiving it relief from economic sanctions. Thevote was symbolic because this bill (HR3461) lacked force of law to kill the dealstruck by Iran with five other nations.

Y NY N N Iran Sanctions Relief: The House adopted,247-186, a GOP measure that would prohibitPresident Obama from lifting U.S. economicsanctions on Iran as part of an internationaldeal (above) aimed at stopping Iran’s push todevelop nuclear weapons. A yes vote was topass HR 3460.

Y NY N N Row Over Side Deals: The House passed,245-186, a GOP measure (H Res 411) statingPresident Obama failed to inform Congressabout side deals between Iran and theInternational Atomic Energy Agency. A yesvote was to accuse him of failing to makedisclosures required by law.

N N Iran Nuclear Deal: The Senate failed, 58-42,to reach 60 votes for advancing a GOP bid toblock an international deal (above) aimed keeping Iran free of nuclear arms. A yes votewas to kill the deal on grounds, in part, that itis weak on verification and would endangerIsrael. (HJ Res 61)

In the week of Sept. 14, the House will take up bills on PlannedParenthood funding and abortion, while the Senate will conduct a secondcloture vote on the Iran nuclear deal.
