The Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley Hesburgh
Lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, at 7:00
p.m. in Room 101 of the Jordan Hall of Science. This
year’s guest speaker will be Dr. Peter Garnavich. His
presentation is entitled “The Expanding Universe and
Large Telescopes.” Dr. Garnavich was a member of the
research team that won the Nobel Prize in Physics for
their discovery of the accelerating expansion of the
universe. A reception will follow Dr. Garnavich’s
presentation. Weather permitting, there will be an
opportunity to go to the Observatory on Jordan Hall and
look through the telescopes.

Guest speaker at November MAS meeting will be Belinda
Cheeseboro, who did a summer internship at Kitt Peak where
she was studying active galactic nuclei using WISE data.
