CECIL CUTTING LEADERSHIP AWARD 2019 Even within the most ideal of healthcare settings, situations arise that challenge the best of us. When that happens, Michael Matsumoto, MD, is a leader who can help. As compassionate as he is courageous, Dr. Matsumoto is consistently relied upon for his caring yet powerful presence and ability to see the best in others. Faithful adherence to one’s core values is at the center of Dr. Matsumoto’s work ethic. “It’s important to have a strong sense of what you believe in,” he explains, “and be willing to follow that even when it’s difficult.” Among Dr. Matsumoto’s many passions is building teams and programs to advance positive developments within TPMG and the community. In pursuit of this mission, he serves as assistant physician-in-chief for human resources, risk management, and compliance. In the community, he serves as a steering committee member on the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Marin County and is lead physician for San Rafael’s Child Abuse Services and Prevention. Dr. Matsumoto particularly enjoys mentoring new physicians. “I reflect with them on how lucky we are to have a culture of group participation. CECIL CUTTING LEADERSHIP AWARD2019

Even within the most ideal of healthcare settings, situations arise that challenge the best of us.

“It’s important to have a strong sense of what you believe in,” he explains, “and be willing to follow that even when it’s difficult.”

Among Dr.

We have the people and resources to succeed and get to be a part of something larger than ourselves.”

“Dr. Matsumoto does not shy away from difficult work and gives of himself to ensure others feel supported. He is authentic, positive, and has a visionary mind. He is appreciative of others, and inspiring to work with.”
