• New business model requires the HVAC team to be in the loop from design through commissioning prior to CO.
• Need for central system ducted or hydronic?
• Need for AC central or zoned?
• Optimize to minimize first costs at lower cost than other energy credit options: envelope, DHW, PV
![Page 4: Michael Lubliner, Senior Building Science Specialist WSU](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022012515/618f9c4439104a5e92009ef3/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
• R2 low-rise multifamily currently uses an electrician, not an HVAC contractor, to install exhaust fans and electric resistance heat. (See WA IMC ventilation amendments)
![Page 5: Michael Lubliner, Senior Building Science Specialist WSU](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022012515/618f9c4439104a5e92009ef3/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Areas of HVAC services to consider providing:
• Heating fuel normalization credit options (1-5)
• HRV/ERV vs energy credit options (2) – “Build tight, ventilate right"
• HVAC energy credit options (3)
• HVAC “inside” energy credit options (4) – all inside or buried ducts – CHANGE!
![Page 6: Michael Lubliner, Senior Building Science Specialist WSU](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022012515/618f9c4439104a5e92009ef3/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Areas of HVAC services to consider providing:
• "VRF” residential ducted cassette, un-ducted and hybrid
• HVAC sizing per Manual J, S & D (if ducted) – WSU heating sizing?
• Help complete the prescriptive forms & compliance certificate for duct leakage tests, blower door tests and HVAC commissioning (new)
• Provide client a value proposition for these services to find sweet spot on first cost, client needs and profit from the WSEC-R CHOP!
![Page 7: Michael Lubliner, Senior Building Science Specialist WSU](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022012515/618f9c4439104a5e92009ef3/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)

Single Family:• IRC-WA have higher rates for exhaust only• IRC-WA allows use of 62.2 rates (more flexible)
R2 – Low-Rise Multifamily:• IMC-WA have higher rates for exhaust only• IMC-WA does not allow 62.2 rates • IMC-WA requires balanced systems • IMC-WA not allowed to use exhaust only anymore• Most will have balanced HRV/ERV!• Yes, you can put the HRV in the attic (???)
![Page 11: Michael Lubliner, Senior Building Science Specialist WSU](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022012515/618f9c4439104a5e92009ef3/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

• Gas furnace on HP is OK for HP fuel credits (type 2) IF the gas furnace back-up is locked out above 35o F, per R403.1.2 Supplemental Heat. To field verify lockout, you need access to the thermostat settings set by the HVAC contractor.
• PTHP w/o HSPF test uses fuel type 4 (other). AHJ to verify HSPF test provided with AHRI directory or equal. IR thermal bridge and air leakage issues – FYI (Clark County experience).
![Page 17: Michael Lubliner, Senior Building Science Specialist WSU](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022012515/618f9c4439104a5e92009ef3/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
• Primary space conditioning systems in each dwelling unit require a programmable thermostat
• Heat pumps with supplemental electric resistance heaters shall have strip heat lockout controls
– Max. setting of 40o F
– Set to 35o F or less at final inspection
![Page 18: Michael Lubliner, Senior Building Science Specialist WSU](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022012515/618f9c4439104a5e92009ef3/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
• Can HVAC location credits 4.1 & 4.2 apply to central ducted or hydronic heating only. (Yes)
Energy savings credit for non-centrally ducted HVAC is already assumed to be contributing to the credits 3.4 DHP in primary or 3.6 DHP (or equal) in each zone. (Intent of energy credits)
• Can HVAC location energy credits option 4.1 & 4.2 can be used with energy credit 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.5. (Yes)
![Page 19: Michael Lubliner, Senior Building Science Specialist WSU](https://reader031.vdocuments.mx/reader031/viewer/2022012515/618f9c4439104a5e92009ef3/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
• Definitions of "primary" for a space heating system when zonal electric. It is the largest load? (Yes?)
• Does energy credit Option 4 require that the HRV/ERV be located within conditioned space? (Yes?)
• Does a non-ducted or ducted cassette heat pump need to be located in conditioned space for energy credit Option 4? (Yes?)
