The spatial design considerations were strongly influenced from the wider mas-ter planning exercises. The spaces had to be carefully considered with factors such as privacy, circulation, and interaction all to be combined with the visual and physical connections that were so strongly influenced from the research section.

The process had to be one that was tested and experimented with, as to come up with a result that worked on different levels whilst still as a whole, not only with the other facilities but the contextual environment as a whole.

Educational, recreational, and social spaces all have different requirements and when challenging the sedentary typology that normal architectural urban centers have. This requires special and developed understanding.

The concept of visual and physical connections to physically active locations and activities within architecture is an imperative design consideration when designing to encourage physical rather than sedentary forms of behavior. Vi-sual connections create the primary action of engaging the user to participat-ing in activity by appealing to their curious and attractable instincts.

Physical connections throughout architectural design relate back to the design considerations made within the research into the ‘Active Design Principals’ individual design elements section. Investigation into what spaces could relate well to each other and work functionally provid-ed the opportunity to develop mixed use spaces within the design, especially within the community areas. This thesis explores the idea of incorporating different functional typologies inside the building with each other to encourage the constant idea of interac-tion. This challenges the typical sedentary problem seen in so many architec-tural designs.

Being passionately curious about things give us the desire to want to learn, to explore and to seek opportunities to set goals and accomplish great things. It allows us to dream.” Ellen J. Barrier
