His home is the space between the ceiling and the thatched roof of a cottage and he will always try to protect

Juan for the Road A Spanish Promenadefor Beginner Wind BandThis lively little piece is in a continuous ¾ with no changes of metre. Though the overall marking is ‘steady’, it is based on a cheerful Spanish dance with a distinctly carnival mood which provides plenty of rhythmic interest and a few other delights along the way; the middle section is only slightly more reflective. The original title was ‘Spanish Promenade’, but then it seemed that before setting off in this time signature you would probably need ‘Juan’ - or even two - for the road.Grade AB 2.5 US 1-2

The Piper of Brafferton A Northumbrian Tunefor Beginner Wind BandA piece based on the traditional Northumbrian piping tune ‘Brafferton Village’ from Brafferton, just north of Darlington. A brief chordal opening serves as introduction, as a link between the main sections and as a coda. The first time the main tune is heard it is quite fully scored. When it returns after the link the scoring is much lighter with the melody on clarinets and alto sax while flutes and glockenspiel play a counter-melody. A crescendo leads to the final statement featuring fanfares from trumpets and trombones. Grade AB 2 US 1
