FISH BITES The Marlins open a week-long, seven-game road trip tonight with the first of four games against the Atlanta Braves. Miami is sending out right-hander Tom Koehler, who is making his fifth career start and eighth appearance against Atlanta, posting a 0-2 record and 3.62 ERA (27.1 IP/11 ER). Miami has yet to win a game against Atlanta in which Koehler has started or appeared. He will square off against RHP Julio Teheran, who in six previous starts against the Fish has gone 4-0 with a 2.50 ERA (39.2/11). Miami’s only other stop on this trip is Houston, where the Fish will take on the Astros in a three-game series Friday-Sunday. Following that series, the Marlins return home for a seven-game homestand, taking on Washington (July 28-30) and Cincinnati (July 31-Aug. 3). ABOUT YESTERDAY Miami snapped a six-game slide with a 3-2 win over the San Francisco Giants at Marlins Park. Casey McGehee started the scoring for Miami in the first, connecting for his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field. The Giants tied the score at 2-2 in the third, and the game remained deadlocked until the seventh, when Adeiny Hechavarria scored on a wild pitch. McGehee continued his hot-hitting ways, leading the Marlins with two of the team’s six hits. Brad Hand (1-2) picked up the win, holding the Giants to two runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts over a career-high tying 7.0 innings. Steve Cishek picked up his 21 st save with a perfect ninth inning. VS. THE BRAVES Miami trails the 2014 series, 4-5, and is making its first appearance at Turner Field since dropping two of three from April 21-23. The Marlins have gone 62-111 in Atlanta, which includes a 13-26 mark since 2010. The Fish trail the all-time series, 144-204, with the loss total marking the most against any team in the history of the franchise. ELIAS SAYS... Casey McGehee snapped the longest homerless streak of his career (232 at-bats) with a two-run shot off Tim Lince- cum in the first inning of the Marlins’ 3-2 win over the Giants in Miami yesterday. It was McGehee’s second round- tripper of the season (and first since May 10), to go along with his 56 RBIs. No other Major Leaguer with as few as two home runs this season has driven in 40 or more runs. ABOUT FACE The Marlins opened the season with a 3-15 record over their first 18 road games, but has turned things around since then, going 14-13 over their last 27. Since May 14, Miami leads all National League teams in road average with a .264 mark (sixth in MLB), and rank third in the NL with a .320 on-base percentage. The Marlins .519 winning percentage in that time is tied with Washington for sixth in the NL. BEAST AGAINST THE EAST Tom Koehler has taken National League East teams to task this season. In 10 starts against Eastern division foes, he has gone just 2-4, but owns a 2.51 ERA (64.2 IP/18 ER) with a .184 average against. In nine starts against non-NL East teams, he has a 4-3 record, 6.00 ERA (48.0/32) and .282 average against. - STATS LLC CASEY’S CONTINUED CONSISTENCY Casey McGehee has posted a .322 average and .387 on-base percentage this season, ranking third in the National League (9 th in MLB) in average and sixth in the NL in OBP, all while leading the Senior Circuit in hits (120). Since May 26, McGehee leads the Majors with a .365 average (66x181), while his .424 on-base percentage ranks second in the NL and third in baseball. From June 23-July 7, he put together a career-best 14-game hitting streak, and also had an 11-game stretch from June 4-16. RELIEVERS IN NEED OF RELIEF On the season, Miami’s bullpen has logged the second-most innings of any National League team, and the third- most of any team in the Majors (318.1). Among NL teams, only the Rockies ‘pen has consumed more innings, tossing a total of 321.1. Since June 15, Miami relievers lead the Majors with 111.2 innings, well ahead of second-place Colo- rado (103.1), and are tied with six other teams for eighth in wins (5). ROADMAP TO SUCCESS In 44 road games, Casey McGehee has posted a .326 average (59x181), marking the third-best road average in the National League (ninth in the Majors). He has recorded at least one hit in 25 of his last 26 road games, batting .405 (45x111) since May 15. His average in that span leads the NL and ranks second to Mike Trout’s .416 (37x89). From May 15-July 7, McGehee hit in 21 consecutive road games, tying Robinson Cano for the longest road hitting streak in the Majors this season. OZO ON FIRE In 44 games to open the season, Marcell Ozuna hit just .248 (39x157) with 17 runs scored, five doubles, six home runs and 23 RBI. Over his last 51 games, he has hit .298 (57x191) with 29 runs scored, 10 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 30 RBI. His average since May 21 is tied with Ryan Braun for sixth-highest among National League outfield- ers, behind Andrew McCutchen (.329), Corey Dickerson (.327), Carlos Gomez (.313), Hunter Pence (.311) and Ben Revere (.311), while his slugging percentage (.524) ranks fourth, behind McCutchen (.633), Khris Davis (.549) and Dickerson (.529). YOUNG FISH CASTING WIDE NET The Marlins outfield trio of Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich, who are all 24-and-under, combined to tally 147 RBI in the first half of the season.
