In 2012 the University of Miami launched its second major fundraising campaign ten years – Momentum2. Our bankruptcy clinic is now known as the Eleanor R. Cristol and Judge A. Jay Cristol Bankruptcy Pro Bono Assistance Clinic in honor of the Hon. A. Jay Cristol, JD ’59 and his late wife. The Chief Judge Emeritus of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Miami gave a sizable gift to name the clinic.

Thanks to a substantial gift from the Greenberg Traurig firm, our Graduate Program in Real Property Development has been renamed the Robert Traurig/Greenberg Traurig LL.M. in Real Property Development.

The Chaplin Challenge has been created with funds made available through the generosity of UM Trustee Wayne Chaplin, JD ’82, Chair of both the School of Law’s Momentum2 and Visiting Committees. It is used as a match to double any new donation directed to scholarships. To date, 17 new scholarships have been established.

Our new LL.M. in Taxation of Cross-Border Investment benefits lawyers who are looking to develop the niche market of structuring investments in and by Latin America; and non-U.S. lawyers ready to delve into a more sophisticated tax practice and understand enough U.S. tax law to work well with U.S. tax lawyers.

Steven M. Mariano, CEO and Chairman of Patriot National Insurance Group, Inc. gave a $1.5 million gift to name The Mariano J.D., MBA, LL.M. Program which awards scholarships to outstanding students known as Mariano Scholars who in 4 years can obtain 3 degrees – a J.D., an MBA and an LL.M. in taxation.
