Dr. Murphy’s Message
Dear Parent/Guardian,
I trust you had an amazing weekend. Our last Spirit Week of the year is coming up. Please
see details inside this Tiger Beat. I wanted to thank everyone who came out last Saturday,
the 18th, for a successful Comcast Cares Day at Marana High School. The volunteer turnout
and work that was accomplished exceeded expectations. We had just about 500 people
show up! It was a joy to see how much the community cares about our school. It was great
seeing all the students and staff walk on to a transformed campus this morning. A big
“Thank You” goes out to Comcast for loving on our amazing school. Some of the projects that
we accomplished were:
Cafeteria painted
Locker room painted and deep cleaned
Library room painted
Landscaping in front of J building and Tiger Pride Gym
All tree well rocks pulled out and cleaned
Gardening and trees trimmed East of B-Building
Windows washed
Both Art rooms cleaned Library deep clean Front of school detailed and raked Debris picked up on entire campus Bleachers in Both Gyms cleaned and detailed Day Care playground equipment sanitized Tennis courts swept of debris Pods in B and H cleaned Flowers and pots distributed around campus F-wing hallway, bathrooms, and dressing rooms painted
We may have overlooked a project or two, as there were so many people who came out to help.
Thank you!!!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 616-6431 or email [email protected]. We are here to serve you.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY WITH THE TOWN OF MARANA
MARANA 2.0 – THE NEXT GENERATION
Our vision for our academies at Marana High School is Discover Your Place and Decide
Your Plan. We have a unique opportunity to help students achieve this through an
internship program we are participating in with the Town of Marana.
Marana High School and the Town of Marana are excited to announce a new
educational partnership – Marana 2.0: The Next Generation – an innovative program
that engages high school students in their local community.
Beginning in the spring 2015 semester, eligible 11th grade students will apply for local
government “jobs” and create projects with real-world magnitude while enrolled in the
MHS internship class. Working with Town staff student projects can include anything
from designing a candidate orientation packet for a Town Council election to creating
overlays and maps for future development within the Technology Services department.
Students will receive a complete list of available projects once accepted to the program.
Town Mentors will assign projects to students and will provide the necessary tools and
information to help students complete those projects. Student projects will progress
over several months and can accommodate flexible working locations including the
school, the town hall, or a students’ home. Town Staff will evaluate completed projects
focusing on written clarity, content relevance, applicability to the department or
position, and the students’ final oral presentation. The MHS internship instructor, Mr.
Alex Ruff, will award the final project grades. Your child will be enrolled in an
internship class and receive an elective credit and a grade for this internship.
The overall goal of this collaborative effort is actively involve young adults in the local
government process. This experience will help students acquire a better
understanding of how their community functions and how local government affects
them daily. It is our hope that this program will provide students exposure to various
career opportunities in both the public and private sector as they continue to explore
their interests.
If your child is interested please have them see Mr. Ruff in B-9 for information. If you
have any questions please contact Mr. Ruff at [email protected].

MARANA ATHLETICS
Tiger Pride News
We are in the spring athletic season with baseball, softball, tennis, track and men’s
volleyball. All programs are entrenched in the 3C’s (Culture, Commitment, and
Competitiveness) at practice, on the field, court, and on campus.
The spring season is winding down and our Tigers still have a lot of fight in them. Our
tennis players are preparing for state to make a name for Marana up in Phoenix. We
wish them the best of luck!
Men’s volleyball is still working hard to meet their goal of making the state playoffs.
Come out and cheer our Tigers on! They are quick, intense and fun to watch. Tiger Pride!
Baseball and softball are battling their way through some very tough games. They are
working hard to stay within reach of the state play-offs and need your support. Come out
on Tuesday as they both battle the Night Hawks!
Track is working their way to gain more provisional times for state. We have quite a few
PR’s, place winners who received medals, and some great competition for our Tigers at
Willie Williams. Jessica Platt is the new record holder for the pole vault for the Lady
Tigers, CONGRATS!
A special shout out to Abbie Hendersen who will be a Division 1 cheerleader at GCU.
Congrats to Abbie for assisting in changing our Culture by Committing to her cheer
program here at MHS and being a true Competitor! Go Lopes!
Proud to be the AD and TIGER PRIDE!

Our vision for our academies at MHS is Discover Your Place and Decide Your Plan. An
important piece of students discovering their place is to hear from adults who have a
career they love. If you would love to share your wisdom and career story with our
amazing students, we would love to have you. We have guest speakers each
Wednesday from 3:00 to 3:40. Please let me know if you are willing to come and help
