FURS FEATHERS AND FELONY (NEW)

What starts as a celebration, quickly and tragically takes a terrible turn for the worst. In this new interactive event, all participants have a part to play in solving the mystery and will discover more mystery as the evening evolves. A felon in the midst! Furs and feathers fly, devious double denouement and scandalous secrets. Accusation and excitement, confusion and casket, hearse and hijinks, who will solve this mystery and live to see another day?

DAZZLE BALLOver 100 years ago at the very beginning of the 1920s, the Chelsea Arts Club held a monumental costume party, The Dazzle Ball, at Royal Albert Hall in London to celebrate the world's emergence from the global crisis that was the Great War. At the very beginning of the 2020s, as the world emerges from the global crisis that is COVID 19, it feels right that we hold another monumental costume party. This time at the other end of the world in Napier where the Art Deco Trust and The Metropolitan Club invite you to celebrate the good times we believe are on the horizon with our very own “Dazzle Ball”.

Guests will enjoy live music from one of New Zealand’s top big bands, The Royal New Zealand Air Force Jazz Orchestra, theatrical performances throughout the evening including performances from the Encore Deco Dancers and the opportunity to win incredible prizes for the best dressed.

DECO DINING @ CENTRAL FIRE STATION (NEW)Built in a Prairie-influenced design in 1923 by noted architect Louis Hay, Napier’s old Central Fire Station served the city until 1969. Late last year this Art Deco treasure entered its most glamorous phase yet, as an upscale bistro.

VINTAGE GARAGE TOUR AND TALK (NEW)

If you love vintage cars and extensive collections of automobilia, this is the event for you. Come with us on a vintage garage tour of one of Hawke’s Bay’s finest private collections and discover some of the best vintage automobilia history in the region.

This tour begins at the Art Deco Masonic Hotel, from there the group will all take the Deco Bus to the secret garage location. Our tour hosts will talk through the collections and open the floor for you to view the cars and explore at your own leisure. Guests will then be taken back to Emporium where a complementary beverage will be waiting at the bar.

DECO DELIGHTS CYCLE TOUR (FREE)Take a leisurely ride around some of Napier’s Art Deco highlights.

Start outside the Art Deco Centre on Herschell Street and ride through the city and around the outer areas viewing Art Deco homes and landmarks and finishing back at the Emporium before midday.

ARGENTINE TANGO DANCE CLASSES

Argentine Tango is an interpretive, improvisational social dance that allows the dancers to develop a deep connection between themselves, the music and the environment in which they are dancing. Bring a partner, friend or come on your own and discover this enthralling dance style.

THE LOST GENERATION LUNCH (NEW)Why was the Jazz age just so jazzy after all? Mangapapa Hotel will pay tribute to the lost generation of American artists who during the 1920s found their voice again in Paris and created a new style and way of thinking that would give birth to modernism in America.

Your afternoon will start with a glass of French bubbles and canapés on the lawn while you listen to music of the era. You will then be taken through a 3 course 1920s French inspired lunch with a modern twist. Lunch will be paired with French wines and café or thé with your dessert while you are taken back into the world of Hemmingway and Fitzgerald.

Special Latin dance performances will feature throughout the evening. AUTORAMBLE (FREE)A fun town and around country car run, plus challenges to test your observation skills. This run will finish at the Hawke’s Bay Vintage Car Club grounds in Meeanee, for the prize giving and optional High Tea.

On completion of the run, High Tea will be served at the Clubrooms. The High Tea is optional at a cost of $10 per person, children under 10 are free. Art Deco attire is encouraged, but not essential.

You will hear the amazing history of this majestic building dating back to the early 1900s through to the present day. Learn about the new technology and capabilities of this state-of-the-art refurbishment.
