In the Spring 2002 - Edie Everly met with Marc Smith, president of MHA, about starting a personal membership group (PMG) for hospital executive assistants.
One assistant from each district was asked to serve on a committee to begin developing MHCEA.

In March 21, 2003, first executive assistant conference was held in Jefferson City.
