State Delegate Report

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the MHAA New South Wales Branch Official Magazine.

I thank you for taking the time to visit & hope that your time spent on the magazine will be of

benefit to you & your miniature horses.

I would like to introduce and congratulate our new committee members for the 2014/2015

year:

If I or any of the NSW Committee members can be of any assistance to you at any time with

any state matters, please feel free to phone or email myself or any of the team, we are eager

to assist in any way we can.

The committee would like to thank all our Members and Sponsors for their support because

without them we would not be here.

We are attempting to keep all members as updated as possible with upcoming shows, results

or any other events etc that are occurring in NSW that you may like to be part of, so please

keep an eye on our website and Facebook Page regularly for updates.

We always welcome any feedback, questions, requests etc from members. We need your

input to assist us to provide as many facilities that we can for our Association & its members

in our state.

I would like to make a special appeal to all youth members we would like to hear from you

too.

I hope as many members as possible will try to attend some of our regional shows. We are

attempting to put them on in as many areas of the state as possible so that most members will

have one or more not too far from home.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our state show to be held as usual in January, so dont

forget to put it on your show calenders. The program, entry forms etc will be on the website

as soon as finalised. It promises to be a great show, please try to attend!

I do hope to meet as many members as possible and looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hi everyone. Danni here. Just thought I’d share a little bit of the past, present and the

future direction Firefly Stud is heading in.

Malcolm and I started Firefly about 7 years ago after I realised I could no longer ride

due to niggling back and neck problems from a car accident when I was younger. I still

needed my ‘horse fix’ and discovered miniature horses. They filled that need and love

of horses I’ve had since I could walk, so off we

went.

Miniature horses, horse shows, breeding, foals

and wonderful friends is where this path has

led us.

Over the years we have worked out what we

like and we are continually striving to produce

true horse types in miniature.

Recently we made the bold decision to purchase

an imported American Shetland mare, JC’s

Baroness (Miss B) who is pictured on the cover

of this magazine.

Since the introduction of this breed by pioneer,

Samantha Dummett, with the importation of

the beautiful stallion, Ringmaster, we have

admired the beauty and grace of this breed and

their potential to change miniature horses in

Australia forever.

It has been exciting watching announcements on social media of who has imported

which Shetland, whose mare has had a foal from one of these wonderful stallions and

seeing these wonderful horses in the show ring.

We are yet to have a Shetland

derivative with the Firefly prefix. In

2013 we had a heartbreakingly

difficult and costly year. Our

Princess, Sonata, lost her WHF

Captivations Rockin Robin foal at 8

months gestation and our other 2

mares refused to go in foal. We even

tried AI but to no avail. Yes, this is

all part and parcel of breeding but

with so much time, money and effort

involved, the disappointments seemed

to hit a bit harder.

But anyway, we can’t dwell on the

past other than to learn from it. So,

we have picked ourselves up, dusted

ourselves off and ‘got back on the

horse’ so to speak. 2014 sees the new beginning for Firefly Stud. Miss B will lead the

way for us and we have 3 other exciting Shetland breedings already confirmed for our

mares this year.

2015 will hopefully see a rare, full American Shetland foal born for us in Australia

carrying our stud prefix plus 3 Shetland derivative foals to our beautiful mares.

As we say, the future is here and now. Watch this space!
