Isaiah Washington, 9yrsAs a parent to Isaiah, I feel down

hearted when I see people who live withdisability, like the experience I have withmy son. When my son was born, he waslooking good in the body until he wasfour years old. On his birthday he gotsick and I took him to the hospital. Thedoctor gave us some medicine and wecame home. After few days the sicknessgot worst, from that day, he has beengoing with this sickness, seizure.

I feel too bad to see my son in thiskind of condition. I have been prayingthat God send someone who will help

my son and others who are in this kindof condition. If the government wasgiving help to people like my son, theywill be in better conditions. But, I amthankful to God to send someone to helppeople like this. May God bless theworks of their hands.

Kulah Varney, 9yrsI have a child with a disabilitydiagnosis of Speech or LanguageImpairment and MentalRetardation. I feel very downhearted about the way in which

people feel about children withdisability. In a country like Liberia, others feel that these types ofchildren are not accountable to evenhave equal education or skilllearning.

With this unjust heart, I theparent have been unpleased to keepmy child with this disability. Societyeven sometimes always calls peopleby names: mad or crazy person. Sowe really need help for these typesof people in Africa.

Lawrence Sayeh, 17yrsIt is very important that thisorganization be brought in Liberia, because so many children are unableto do things on their own. They aredisabled in the country so it is

necessary that they help ourchildren in Liberia.Sometimes I go to work as a

father and my son moves from placeto place. My mother is very old, shedo not have the strength to take careof him. He has problems. At the

end people beat on him and thatalone plays on his mind. So I deemit necessary for the organization tocome to my aid.

Comfort Davis, 34yrsMy experience as an individual and a

family member with disabilities is verybad. In the first place my government ofLiberia has never provided the rightinstitutions that should look out for the

interest of its citizens with thesedisabilities. Because of this, their fellowcitizens look upon them as an outcastand less human in society. They mockthem, laugh and make fun of them inpublic.

    If the government was during

something to help these children, theirfellow men would have more respect forthem and their well being. There areother areas of disability in our countrythat the government support. They donot support the area of mental disability.

Titema Telewoda, 31yrsThe Bible says in 1stThessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all

circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ concerningyou. Children are gift from God and we should be thankfuland receive them as such. It is a terrible and bitter feelinghowever, for a mother to experience the humiliation, negative expression and odd names made and called bypeople in the community.

This is something the child has no control over nor isresponsible for. Worst of all, the Education Ministry that isresponsible for education in the country Liberia do not have

the required institution to help these children. A focus pointfor me in this situation was always 1st Thessalonians 5:18.

As the years went by, the truth of the meaning of this versebecame very clear to me and I learned why God had given itto me. A sibling of Titema, became interested in SpecialEducation with emphasis on the mild, moderate or severedisabled. Here God had not only provided for Titema only, but for the future of the West African sub-region and whoknows, from other countries of the world.

Giving thanks to God in all circumstances, certainly paidoff for me. My encouragement to mothers like me andfamilies with children with intellectual disabilities, is toaccept your gift from God whatever the situation. Givethanks for that gift. Be patient with that gift. Do not compareit with other gifts. Finally pray for those who hurt you and

your child by their negative expressions. God who is ourfinal judge will reward us for all our role played. Thank Godfor My Hearts Appeal. God Bless.
