PlanningLearning how to plan plays a major part in the education of student teachers particularly at the beginning of the PGCE course; Please peruse the Learning How to Plan sheet and discuss with those around you the statements on the sheet : do you agree with them all; would you change any; would you add any others?Lastly, can you rank the statements on the sheet in order of importance?
Joint PlanningOur student teachers are expected to do joint planning with their Subject Mentor at different stages of the PGCE year, starting with DP.With those around you, discuss your experiences of joint planning.Consider: How might you best use joint planning as a learning opportunity for both yourself and your student teacher/s?
Practical Task for studentsWork with your mentor as she or he plans a lesson using the university format. Ask your mentor questions about the decisions they are making. This will help them to complete an activity that they will find fairly difficult (having already internalised a planning structure) and will help you to understand better the planning process.
Cont. Then observe the lesson being taught and notice how your mentor adapts the plan during the lesson. Make notes about any adaptations and changes and speculate on the reasons for those. After the lesson discuss your notes with your mentor.
