Bangalore’s metro, popularly known as Namma Metro, became the first modern feature of the city and will benefit more than a million commuters a day Problem Addressed by the Project Bangalore, the fifth largest city in India with a population of over 10 million in 2014, is the capital of the state of Karnataka. The city houses many of the important Information Technology companies and is nicknamed as the Silicon Valley of India. Rapid growth in vehicle population has been causing extreme congestion and air pollution on this city's roads. As the result, Bangalore is emerging as one of the most polluted cities in India. In 1994, the state government of Karnataka had incorporated a company called, "Bangalore Mass Rapid Transit Limited" (BMRTS) to implement a Mass Rapid System. In 2002, two major corridors of East-West and North – South were identified. Services Provided As the JV member consultant appointed by BMRC, OC Global has been providing the following services: Preliminary design Tender design and tender documentation for various design and construct contract packages Tender documentation for various "Construct only" packages Bid process management, including selection of contractors/suppliers/detailed design consultants Review and proof checking of detailed designs & drawings, including system works Project management and construction supervision under FIDIC conditions of contract Quality, Safety and Environment management Contract management System integration Testing & commissioning of the entire system Prepared operation and maintenance manuals for various disciplines • Training the personnel of BMRC for operation and maintenance Actual Project Works This MRT system comprises construction of 8.8 km of underground and 33.5 km of elevated track (42.3 km in total length), 41 stations and 2 depots. Commercial operations on 6.1km elevated section (E-W line) opened in October 2011 and 9.9km elevated section (N-S line) opened in March 2014.
