“PAINTING LINES”

Matthew 22:15-22 There is a story of a man who was fired from the Highway Department. He was hired to paint the lines down the middle of the highway, and the first day, when he painted fifteen miles, his supervisor was ecstatic. Then the next day he only painted four miles, and the next day only a quarter of a mile, and the supervisor had to fire him.

“How come you only painted a quarter mile the last day?” his supervisor asked. “Well, to tell you the truth,” the man replied, “I just kept getting farther and farther away from the can.”

Summer has come and almost gone, and most of us have taken the opportunity to wander a bit. Some of us have traveled great distances and some have found solace and relaxation in the backyard. No matter, the time to rest, to enjoy ourselves, to reconnect with family and friends, all of it is important to our well-being. I find much of the idea of “Sabbath” in these activities.

As we ponder how we may while away the last of our leisure time, I want to encourage you to keep yourself close to the source of all that is. In fact, for the last few weeks of the summer, why don’t you pick up the can and carry it with you? It may save you a long walk back and forth, and help to uncover beauty and meaning for you wherever you may be. A wise man once encouraged me to keep my tools close to my work. That advice has served me well, and opened my eyes to opportunities I would have missed in travels for tools I could have carried with me. I pray that you keep the main thing the main thing, and stay close to the can.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY Hudson United Methodist Women are celebrating Christmas in July! Please join us! For the past several Christmas seasons we have decorated a Christmas tree in the children’s wing with stockings requesting donations from the congregation for various school supplies. We donate these school supplies to the UMCOR school kit project. Forty-five (45) school kits were just delivered to annual conference during early June. These were the supplies you so generously donated at Christmas 2018. Thank you so much! The HUMW is interested in expanding this mission project by also collecting supplies in July and August when they are so plentiful and inexpensive. You will find our “summer Christmas tree” in the same spot with notes requesting what donations we would like. Simply take the note and shop for the item at your leisure. Return it near the tree when your shopping is complete. We so appreciate the generosity of this congregation! We are always overwhelmed by the amazing support you give us for each of our mission projects! Thanks in advance for your support.

The supply list has changed a bit. The updated list for each kit is as follows:

1. One pair blunt scissors (round tips, no plastic) 2. 24-count box of crayons 3. 3 one-subject notebooks (the 70-page spirals are great) 4. 1 pack loose-leaf filler paper (100-200 sheets – NEW ITEM) 5. 1 hand-held pencil sharpener 6. 1 12 inch or 30 cm ruler 7. 6 unsharpened pencils 8. 1 eraser (2 inches or longer) 9. 2-gallon re-sealable plastic bag (to put supplies in)

If you would like additional information please contact Angie Helmer at [email protected] or 330 655-2354.

TUBMAN MEMORIAL PREACHING POINT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Dear Saints:

This communication serves as acknowledgment of your donation of choir robes (20 pcs.) to our church in Liberia.

The Pastors and the entire membership at Tubman Memorial United Methodist preaching point are therefore thanking you the Hudson United Methodist Church for this kind gesture in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

We were glad to receive the team from East Ohio Annual Conference visiting our church to see what our brothers and sisters have done for us in this local church.

Even, not forgetting our Associate Pastor Sam Quarshie who has continuously spread the message for our church to be in partnership with your people.

May the Almighty quantify your blessing and grant Hudson’s family with good health as we look forward to your convenient presence at our church edifice in order to formally celebrate the goodness of our Lord, Jesus Christ and the work you have done for us.

We are grateful to welcome your new assigned Pastor, Rev. Clark Stein as the Senior Pastor at HUMC for his leadership role as he has started and will continue to lead God’s people for God’s kingdom.

Best Regards, Yours in Christ,
