Lessons Learned: INL

• Accumulating snow requires several hours of snow falling to cool the ground..if it had been warm.

• After all, the Tmax of 49F was a very good number to focus on!

• A quickly deepening cyclone with a developing moisture feed will form a cold conveyor circulation that can produce snow!

• A full latitude trough tends to move slower than the mesoscale models predict and will have fewer waves than expected.

• The classic ‘fools clearing’ will have a big effect on cloud cover and temperature predictions.

• Surface winds, when not aligned with a large trough, will be weaker than forecast.
