InaTEWS INTRODUCTIONInaTEWS INTRODUCTION

• Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because it is located at the meeting point of three tectonic plates, namely: Indo-Australian Plate, the Eurasian plate and the Pacific plate.

• The meeting point of three tectonic plates are located on the sea so that when a large earthquake occurs at shallow depths, it can be potentially tsunami. Therefore, Indonesia is prone to tsunamis

Page 9: Meteorological climatological and geophysical agency INDONESIA Geneva, Switzerland , April 2013

• Learning from the experience of the earthquake and tsunami in Aceh, Mentawai and other areas that cause casualties and property losses, therefore it is needed preparedness efforts by both government and the community to reduce the risk due to earthquake and tsunami.

• As the tsunami hazard preparedness efforts, the government of Indonesia in cooperation with various parties established the Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System

• InaTEWS stand for Indonesia Tsunami Early Warning System

• Formally launched at November, 11th 2008

• InaTEWS produces Earthquake Informations and Tsunami Warnings

• InaTEWS should disseminate Tsunami Warning within 5 minutes after earthquake

Suggestions

In order to get easier for CAP implementation:

• Request/encourage WMO to provide CAP standard templates, as a guide for members countries for implementing the CAP

• Request to WMO to provide the CAP data exchange mechanism among WMO and members countries
