GENESIS-A verse by verse study on this book of beginnings. THE UPPER ROOM—is a lively, discussion based class. Thoughts, ideas and wisdom are shared each week. We are very pleased to share The Upper Room Bible Study via Podcast. Subscribe today at: messiahlutheranpodcast.com/subscribe FOCUS—is a small group that goes through the Bible one book, one chapter, one verse at a time. Our mission is to lead a comprehensive understanding of the Word of God. AMA—modeled after #AMA events online, this class centers around a box where you can submit your questions about anything! Each week we use the Bible to find biblically based answers to all of our questions.
GMC–Through their courage, vision, hospitality, and spiritual gifts, women played a key role in God’s plan revealed in the Old and New Testaments. Join us as we take an in-depth look at women in the Bible to learn how extraordinary they were and the extraordinary way God used them to carry out His plan. MOSAICS-Messiah Mosaics is a class geared at anyone in their 30s or 40s, married or single. This is a discussion based class that examines how God's Word influences our daily walk with Christ. MEET MESSIAH-If you would like to know about Messiah, meet at the Guest Information Desk at 9:30am. A few of our members will take you on a tour of our campus and answer questions you may have about our church.
Maps to the Education Building can be found at the Guest Information Desk in the Lobby.

PASTOR WELMER’S WEDNESDAY MEN'S LUNCH AND BIBLE STUDY-You are invited to join this weekly study on Wednesdays for an in depth look at Paul's letter to the Ephesians. Through our study we will discover how our faith is wrapped up in the mystery and revelation of
Jesus Christ. WOMEN’S THURSDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY GROUP~9:30-11am. “Jonah: Navigating a Life Interrupted.” What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! In this Bible study, Priscilla Shirer redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God's invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city. Karrie Looney is facilitating this series. The cost for the class is $20. To reserve your study, e-mail [email protected]. We meet in Room E247N on the 2nd floor, down the back hallway. Free baby-sitting is offered with advanced notice to Amy Plenger, [email protected].

Men’s Spiritual Retreat–Save the dates– October 4th thru October 5th Men of Messiah, please mark your calendars for our annual Spiritual Retreat. We will again be holding the retreat at the Springhill Retreat Center in Richardson. Those of you whom have attended in the past know that while this facility is close to town, it offers a peaceful and restful setting for the study of God’s Word.
This year, Pastor Otte will be leading discussions and study on the book of 1 John. This is a first-hand account from a man who walked with Jesus. The format will be a dinner at 6PM on Friday and one lesson that evening, culminating in a bon-fire near the pond. On Saturday we will begin with breakfast at 8AM and have several lessons during the day and will end with a communion service and be finished around 4PM. Thanks to some generous gifts, the price this year will still be $45 or less and we have reserved 5 rooms (sleep up to 10 men) for those who wish to spend Friday night. We can reserve more rooms if necessary. More details for signing up will be forthcoming, but if you have any questions or want to get in an early reservation, please contact John Sweitzer at [email protected], 469-288-6884. Information for the Springhill Retreat Center can be found at http://www.phpc.org/springhill/.

Messiah Serves: Our Social Ministries and Outreach Dawn Johnson – 972-948-8966 – [email protected]
COMMUNITY DAY OF SERVICE
Our Community Day of Service is coming up in September. I’m looking forward to the opportunities we will have to serve our neighbors and share God’s love with them. Details are coming soon! The mission of our Outreach Ministries is to be Jesus’ hands to our church, city, national, and international community. We do this through weekly opportunities for hands-on service such as those listed below and also through contributions to community charities such as Network of Community Ministries and the Assistance Center of Collin Country, wonderful organizations who are equipped to deal with the long-term needs of struggling individuals.
HELPING OUR CHILDREN’S MINISTRY IN SHARING HIS LIGHT The children’s ministry is putting our church mission: Sharing His Light into action! The children’s ministry has adopted Evergreen at Plano–Senior Living Residence to support their food pantry that was started to help those in need. The children’s ministry will be sup-porting the Evergreen at Plano, with an ongoing food collection drive to help their efforts with the food pantry. A dozen members of Messiah currently call Evergreen at Plano home. Adopting this particular senior living residence provides a great opportunity for our children to serve not only members of our church, but also those in the community.
Throughout the summer months of July and August I would like to extend the support of Evergreen at Plano’s Food Pantry to the entire congregation. There are two white bins labeled Evergreen at Plano Food Pantry with a list of donated food items needed located in our collection area next to the NETWORK grocery carts. Please consider helping the Children’s Ministry throughout the summer months support the Evergreen
at Plano Food Pantry. If you have any questions you can email me at [email protected].
ONGOING COLLECTION PROJECTS-Please note that all collection projects are located in the designated collection area next to the Family Room in the Chapel building. Questions about any of our collection projects you can contact me at [email protected] or 972-948-8966.

LOOKING FOR 3 That’s the number needed to fill the Sunday School staff. Please consider this opportunity to lead children. Your gift of 1 hour per week makes the difference of an eternity! SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER INSTALLATION is TODAY. Staff meeting is on August 22nd. Fall lessons start September 1st. RALLY DAY SUNDAY is coming September 1st. Children will gather in the Multi-Purpose room for a big rally to the new Sunday School year. There will be praise songs, prayer, games and a rally day parade through the building. Invite a friend!
EVERGREEN FOOD PANTRY mission project continues this fall sponsored by the Sunday School. Kickoff the new school year by bringing in items on Rally Day to stock the pantry! GRANDPARENTS DAY is September 8th. What better way to share your faith than to come to Sunday School with your grandchildren and read to them! Even if your grandchildren are not at Messiah, the Sunday School children would love to “adopt” you for the day and honor you. Looking for about 8 grandparents willing to read the Bible Story that morning, so that every class will have a special guest. FOOTPRINTS OF FAITH for new Kindergarten students will be September 15th. Look for an email with more details coming next week.
Stay tuned for a new youth ministry calendar! We have met with students are in the process of getting it all figured out! JAM – 5th-8th graders are invited to JAM, our weekly junior high
Bible study! Come hang out in the couch room from 6:30 to 7:30 on Tuesday evening! Mark your calendars for September 4, as JAM will be moving to Wednesday nights from 6:45 to 7:45 PM in room E247N, which is the same room that 8th graders have been using for Sunday School.
MESH – High School students are invited to hang out at the Starbucks on 15th and Custer from 7 to 8:30 on Wednesday! See you there! Sunday School Rally Day – On September 1, we will celebrate the start of our Fall Sunday School classes. This is an exciting time because Junior High students will be able to have their own classes (divided by grade), teachers, and helpers. We hope that you can be there as we start our Sunday School time where we can read God’s Word and experience fellowship together!
