Messages From Your Principal

Helping Children To Learn Well Term 4 Week 08 2018

Dear Families and Friends of Albion Park Rail

Can you believe there are less than two weeks left of school? This year has certain-

ly flown by. Just a reminder that Wednesday 19th December 2018 I the last day of

school for the year.

Carols by Glowlight

What an outstanding turnout for the biggest school event of the year. I was abso-

lutely blown away with the turn out ad community support. Thank you so much to

the P&C and parent/community volunteers. A HUGE thank you to Mr Neil Scott

for coordinating the event and running the evening. Our student carol performances were terrific!

Thank you also to our teachers for practicing with the students.

Warrigal Care

This week our students visited Warrigal care to sing Christmas carols to the residents. I was so proud to

be in the audience watching them. Students also introduced themselves to the residents and went

around the room chatting to each person. Such a memorable thing to do when in Primary school and a

moment treasured by the elderly residents.

Soak-a-Thon

Last week’s Soak-a-Thon was so much fun! Students and teachers had a terrific time. Thank goodness

that the sun was out! So far the event has raised a whopping $6,800! What an outstanding effort by our

students and community! The money raised will go towards purchasing some new technology in our

school, including robotics! This will enhance our STEM kit even further. Today many students re-

ceived a prize in the raffle. There were lots of prizes to give away. If you still have sponsorship money

at home please send it in to further enhance our technology purchases! Thanks to Mr Maitland and Mrs

Hodson for coordinating the event.

Year 7 Orientation

On Tuesday our Year 6 students went to their local high school Orientation as it was the State-wide

Public School orientation day. The majority of our students will be attending Oak Flats High School

and some will attend Albion Park High School. Students reported that they had a terrific day and the

feedback from the high schools was that our students did our school proud yet again with terrific be-

haviour. Not long now until the Year 6 graduation and farewell!

Farewell to Karen Vincenzini

After five terrific years of service to the Albion Park Rail Public School students and teachers the time

has come for us to farewell Miss Vincenzini as she embarks on the next chapter in her career -

Principal of Corrimal Public School. Miss Vincenzini was appointed as the Instructional Leader under

the Early Action for Success reform. She was employed to work very closely with teachers and stu-

dents in the Kindergarten to Year 2 grades. Through Miss Vincenzini's leadership we have seen a huge

improvement in student learning and growth in our data. Teachers' practice has improved because of

the initiatives that Miss Vincenzini implemented at our school and through her mentoring. Miss Vin-

cenzini, we will miss you dearly. Thank you for all of your support, encouragement and leadership

over the past five years. Corrimal Public School are very lucky to be welcoming an outstanding leader

like you.

Important Messages

School Pride We are so very fortunate to have fabulous school grounds and when they are kept rubbish free they look amazing.

We are focussing on being responsible for your own rubbish and food packaging. We ask students to put their

recycling and rubbish in appropriate bins and keep their learning and playing environment a beautiful space. We

have created a Return and Earn bin that is located at the Canteen. Students can place their empty bottles

purchased from the Canteen (or those brought in from home) in this bin and the volunteers in the Canteen have

offered to trade them in at the Return and Earn stations. All of these profits will go directly back to the school.

We can be green and save money too!

Are You Leaving Our School in 2019?

If you are moving from the Albion Park Rail area next year can you please inform the front office. It is that time

of year that we are planning for 2019 and looking at our numbers. If these numbers aren't right it impacts on our

ability to form classes.

Hall Hire

Our hall is available for hire, with ongoing bookings. Currently it is booked on an ongoing basis on a Tuesday

afternoon and Thursday afternoon. If you would like to hire our hall please contact our front office to make an

appointment.

Stage 3 Bring Your Own Device Program 2019

In order to extend student learning we will be introducing an optional Bring Your Own Device Program (BYOD)

in mainstream Year 5 and 6. Students in Stage 3, will be given the opportunity to bring their own technology de-

vice (Apple device eg iPad or iPad Mini) for use at school as part of the BYOD Program.

We do not wish any family to feel financial pressure to supply their own device.

This program will be OPTIONAL and those who may not have their own technology device will have the op-

portunity to access a shared school device. It is a choice for each family to make individually. However, sustaina-

bility of the program relies on a majority of families being able to provide their own device.

Technology Coordinator

Staying In Touch

P&C Messages

P&C Commonwealth Bank Lucky Student Banker

Banking is every Tuesday. If you wish your child to begin banking at school

please see the office for an information pack. This fortnight’s Lucky Student

Bankers, receiving a voucher for the Canteen, are: Samantha L of class 34Teal

Lucas F of class 34White, Zoe V of class 1Peach and Tyreece C of class 1Peach.

Congratulations!

P&C Uniform Shop - OPENING TIMES

The Uniform Shop is open every Wednesday afternoon at 2.30pm to 3pm.

Please remember you can always order through the Office. Orders are usually filled within 2-3 days. Purchases

can be made with cash ONLY. We do NOT have EFTPOS facilities. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Canteen News

We will be running down stock before the Christmas break and in some cases things might be substituted. The

Canteen will be closed during the last week of school for stock take. We apologise for the inconvenience.

As always we’re always looking for new helpers to start next year’s roster, so please contact the Canteen or the

Office on 42 561 287.

As you can see by the days marked in blue we are in desperate need of assistance on a number of days coming up.

If you can help out even for a couple of hours we would REALLY appreciate it. Mornings are also a challenge. If

you drop your child off at 8.30am and can spare half an hour to help in the morning rush, that would help

immensely!! Just pop in and see the ladies in the Canteen in the morning.

We’re having our Volunteers Christmas gathering at Shelly’s Monday 17th December 2018 at 11am, there are

several choices of food or just have a coffee. All school volunteers are welcome!
