Incinerator projectcommunity update
Western BioEnergy, a wholly ownedsubsidiary of Dalkia Canada, is propos-ing to develop a 33 MW wood-fuelledelectricity generation facility on theTolko site, on the southwest, down-wind edge of Merritt. The project alsowill require a 3 to 3.5km long high-volt-age transmission line will deliver itselectricity to the BC Hydro grid.
The fuel for the incinerator is to besawmill residuals and roadside debris.Proponents of the project say this willreduce uncontrolled emissions from open
burning of this logging debris in the region.They also say the project will use
state of the art combustion, generationand pollution control technology. Specialattention is being paid to minimizingnoise and dust related to the facility.
The company will hold a communityupdate info session, on Thursday, June23, 6-9pm at the Civic Centre, with a pres-entation at 7pm. If you have questions orcomments, email [email protected] orcall (604)251-8448.
Broadband boostfor rural areas
The Province is providing $2.34 mil-lion to expand internet service to busi-nesses & residents in over 60 locales inrural BC, under the Connecting CitizensGrant Program. Among the projects thatreceived funding and are targeted forcompletion by March 31, 2012, are:
Glimpse Lake ($20,650), Lac le Jeune($43,250), Stump Lake ($24,400), andNicola Lake and surrounding areas($33,300). The internet provider whowill develop the projects in these areas isCopper Valley Computers Ltd.
There are also projects in severalareas in the Fraser Canyon, includingBoston Bar, Lytton & Spences Bridge.
