HOLISTIC PET CARE
Dr. Stephen Tobin will be discussing holistic pet care on Monday, April 1 at 6:30 pm in the Griffin Room. For many people, pets are regard-ed and treated as family members. Dr. Tobin will discuss appropriate diets, vaccinations, health issues, and disease and parasite preven-tion for our furry companions. Stephen Tobin, Dr.Med.Vet., is a holistic veteri-narian who provides treatment using homeopathy, herbs, and nutri-tion. He is a veterinary graduate of the Ludwig Maximillian Universitat in Munich, Germany. He is a member of the American Holistic Veteri-nary Medical Association, the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy, and the Veterinary Botanical Medical Association. He is a past presi-dent of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. All are welcome to this free program. If you would like to reserve a

BROADWAY MAGIC: THEN AND NOW
Stop into the Meriden Public Library on
Saturday, April 6 at 2:00 pm and enjoy
“Broadway magic: then and now” with
Francine and Joel Zelnik. This musical pro-
gram will include songs with the musical
magic that can only come from a legendary
Broadway show. You will be entertained
with the old “razzle dazzle and over 23
Broadway gems, with songs from “Annie”, “Sweet Charity”, “Gypsy”,
“The Little Mermaid”, “The Producers”, “South Pacific” and more.
All are welcome to this free program. Funding for this program is
provided by the Friends of the Meriden Public Library.

Amy Prescher, an art and architectural historian, will present “Stained
Glass Windows of Meriden” on Tuesday, April 9 at 6:30 pm in the
Griffin Room. This program is cosponsored by the Meriden Historical
Society.
Amy has advanced degrees from the University of Bamberg, Germany,
and Yale. She currently teaches in the CSU system and is working on
the adaptive reuse of the Worthington Meeting House in Berlin as a
historical society museum and cultural center. All are welcome to this
free program.
STORYWALK® AT THE LIBRARY
STAINED GLASS WINDOWS OF MERIDEN
Families are invited to enjoy the book That's not a daffodil! by Elizabeth Honey, a StoryWalk® on loan from the Kiwanis Club of Meriden at the Meriden Public Library during the month of April. The panels will be in English and Spanish.
A StoryWalk® is a series of signs featuring sequential spreads from a children’s picture
book. The pages are spread throughout a space allowing a reader to follow along with a story by walking.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.

DEDICATION OF HOLOCAUST COLLECTION
The public is invited to the Meriden Public Library on May 1, 2019 for
the dedication of the Temple B’nai Abraham World War II Holocaust
collection and Holocaust remembrance Yom HaShoah observance.
The evening will start at 6:15 pm with refreshments in the Marion
Cook Room. The program will move to the Griffin Room for the
dedication and Yom HaShoah observance at 6:45 pm. The Temple
B’nai Abraham has gifted their multi-media Holocaust collection to the
Meriden Public Library to expand its collection and be a valued
resource for the community for research and education.

QURAN EXHIBITION, COFFEE & CONVERSATION
Come to this educational, bridge building exhibit of the Holy Quran by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on Saturday, April 20 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Cook Room at the Meriden Public Library. Discover with your neighborhood Ahmadi Muslims what heralded the Golden Age, Renaissance, Enlightenment, and Age of Reason in History. The 1400 year old Scripture, unchanged since its revelation, of the fastest growing faith on earth: Islam. Yet, more than 60% of Americans are unacquainted with its content of remedying societal ills, global guidance towards justice and peace, scientific truths, and precise predictions. It encompasses and honors the Gospels, Torah and Holy Books of other faiths from around the world and it all started with the unlettered orphan known for his righteousness: Muhammad the Messenger of Allah. Learn from peace-loving Muslims who live by 'love for all, hatred for none' and make new friends in the process. Refreshments will be served.

The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring Census Takers to work in their communities. There are many great jobs available. VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE
Meriden Public Library will host the
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Program through April 15, 2019.
V.I.T.A., which is sponsored by the
Internal Revenue Service, provides
free help to taxpayers who cannot
afford professional assistance or who
have tax questions. Assistance in
preparing Connecticut state tax forms
will also be available.

Need to renew or get a new passport? Stop into the
Meriden Public Library and bypass that line at the
Post Office. The Post Office holds a passport
application service at the library each month from
10 am to 2 pm and will hold the next one on
Saturday, April 20. Please bring your birth certifi-
cate or naturalization certificate with front and back
photocopy, valid photo identification (such as a driver’s license) with
front and back photocopy, personal check/money order for payment
of the passport fee. Photos will be offered for $15. For more

Raptors- Birds of Prey by Horizon Wings – April 5
Meriden – Horizon Wings will be presenting the program Raptors-Birds
of Prey at the Library on Friday, April 5 at 1:00 pm in the Griffin Room.
Horizon Wings will bring four raptors and discuss their individual stories
as well as the characteristics and behaviors of each species. Horizon
Wings is a non-profit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center specializing in Birds
of Prey and located in Ashford, CT. All are welcome.

Danube River Cruise – April 8
Barbara and Jack Brooks will describe their trip up the Danube River, going
through 4 countries and touring 5 cities on Monday, April 8 at 1:00 pm in the
Griffin Room at the Library. See 11th and 12th century castles, cathedrals,
and architecture in medieval cities, and locations filmed in The Sound of Mu-
sic (why is the movie not popular in Austria where it was filmed?) and Monu-
ment Men movie. Learn why some cities on the Danube were extensively
bombed, and some left untouched in WWII. All
are welcome.
Our Amazing Universe – April 12
Our understanding of the universe changed dramatically in the 20th century,
but many questions to still need to be answered. Join us on Friday, April 12 at
1:00 pm in the Griffin Room at the Library, as we travel from the surface of
Mars to the brain of the late Stephen Hawking (and beyond) in search of the answers to ten lingering ques-

Myths and Legends of the Lower Connecticut River Valley – April 23
The lower Connecticut River Valley has been the site of vibrant myths and legends
ever since the first storytellers arrived thousands of years ago. The European coloni-
zation of Connecticut brought another set of folklore from the Old World, and count-
less other stories have illuminated the River Valley since the United States became a
nation. Stephen Olbrys Gencarella, Ph.D, Professor of Folklore at the University of
Massachusetts, Amherst and the resident folklorist at the Connecticut River
Museum in Essex, CT., will present this program at the Library on Tuesday, April 23 at 1:00 pm. Dr. Gencarella
will review those fascinating stories and what they have meant to the people who tell them. It will also pre-
view a major exhibit on the folklore of the River Valley at the Ct River Museum and invite audience members
to share their own folk stories. All are welcome.
Down but Not Necessarily Out – April 24
Down but not necessarily from a fall. We all have been there...unable to use our arms/hands to get off the
floor. Jill McGrath PT, DPT at Ivy Rehab Physical Therapy, will teach us exercises to strengthen arms and hands
on Wednesday, April 24 at 1:00 pm at the Library. You will also learn helpful hints if one has a minor fall, how
to get up and go! All are welcome.
A Taste Of Thompson Chocolate – April 30
Enjoy learning about the history of Meriden's first candy store from Kevin Scarpati, Sales and
Marketing Manager for Thompson Chocolate, on Tuesday, April 30 at 1:00 pm in the Griffin
Room at the Library. Beginning back in 1879, William H. Thompson started his company in Meriden, CT., which
now has a presence throughout the United States. Learn about advancements in the industry and how Thomp-
son has become a leading manufacturer in the chocolate industry today. All are welcome.
